How to create workflow step with a role and specific resources as participants ?

Answer
Participants for a workflow step can be any one of the following, but you cannot mix the participant types:

• resource
• role
• system-defined participants
• configurable field participants

Instead, you can do the following:

1. Create a step for the role that you want to set as the participant. 
2. Create another step for the other resources that should be assigned to the step.
3. Use a JOIN DECISION for the next step to combine the previous steps, and select the "One of the previous step is completed" option.
