Microsoft Project Integration questions

QUESTION:

1. How to upload an existing MSP linked Project and populate the ChangePoint Project Worksheet.

2. After Linking a Changepoint project to a Microsoft Project and making the updates selecting “Yes” in “Update CP” Project column on the linked MSProject. Is the update sent to Changepoint capturing changes to that task ONLY that “Yes” was selected plus any Successor that that task impacts even if those other task are still “No”?

ANSWER:

  1.   Linking for the first time Using MS Project:
-Transfers the cost rate for the resources to the resource records. Not needed unless you do monetary reports in MSP
-Transfers non-working days to resource calendars and sets the resource Maximum units based on resource weekly hours.
-Transfer actual start date if there is one. Not available if you transfer detailed time, since first time record will be actual start date.

    Note:
When using the Insert project option to import an existing MSP project, you must clear the Link to project check box. Otherwise, data will not be updated from Microsoft Project to Changepoint Enterprise. Also, keep in mind that actual times and dates in this plan will be overwritten with actual data from Changepoint Enterprise when the link is updated.
  2.  Transferring to a linked project Best Practice:
-Update modified tasks if you are taking information from CP to MSP
-Update non-working days and resource max units so scheduled reflect availability
    -Update actuals
-Do not update remaining until you have assessed the latest forecast information and have some idea what is going to change
-Update detailed time so MSP matches Changepoint.
