If you add a workflow state step, you can select the configurable field of the entity (for example, the request field in a request workflow) in the Transition tab, and then define a condition based on the value of the field.

However, if you require a workflow process step or to check a field from another entity, then you will need a logic execution step that calls a custom stored procedure. There is an example in the "Sample stored procedure used in logic execution steps" section in the Changepoint Administration help and guide.
