Cannot unassign a security features or a role from a resource

Symptoms

One or both of the following occurs:

  • When trying to remove a role or security feature, the following message appears:

Some of the features cannot be removed because they must be assigned to at least one resource.

  • Cannot assign a security feature to a user.
Reason

There are certain security features that must always be assigned to at least one resource.

This message appears if you try to remove one of these security features, or a role that includes the security feature, from the only resource to which the feature or role is currently assigned.

The security features that must always be assigned to at least one resource are:

  • Changepoint Administrator SMA
  • Create Resources CRE

  • Edit Confidential Section API

  • Edit Organizational Information Section MAC
  • Edit Qualifications and Functions Section MQF
  • Edit Resource Information Section MRE
  • Edit Security Access Section MRF
  • Terminate Resources URE
  • View Confidential Section VCI
  • View Organizational Information Section VAC
  • View Qualifications and Functions Section VQF
  • View Resource Information Section VRE
  • View Security Access Section VRF

Resolution

The message that prevents these security features from being removed from the last resource was first introduced in General Patch 18.01.082.000. When the message appears, you must first assign the security feature or role to another resource before you can unassign it from the last resource.

If one of these security features was removed from all resources in a release version prior to the patch, then a data patch is required to fix it.
