Effective date of workgroup assignment (2010)

QUESTIONS
1. When we assign a resource to a workgroup in System Manager, we have an option of setting the effective date. Can we set a past date as effective date of workgroup assignment?

2. For a resource we can set the workgroup id and the global workgroup id using API but we don't see any option of setting a workgroup assignment effective date.


RESOLUTION
1- A past date can be used as long as this date value is greater than the latest assignment (transfer) or unassignment effective date. If a workgroup change (transfer) exists after the desired past date, this date cannot be used.

2- If API is used for assigning a user to a workgroup with an effective date, the effective date field is ReportsToEffectiveDate in the API, which is also used for the ReportsTo assignment. Alternatively, you can leave this field empty to use the current date for the workgroup assignment.
