Appfabric Support from Microsoft has ended v2012

Microsoft has deprecated support for AppFabric.
What are the replacement recommendations?  Can we migrate to Redis?  
What are the steps to migrate to Redis, if that is an option?

AppFabric  extended support till 2022. The Changepoint product will employ Redis for its distributed caching needs starting with CP2017.  There are no plans to retrofit AppFabric  support to earlier versions of Changepoint
