Alternate Name is not showing on Opportunity Record

Symptoms

The Alternate Name field is not showing up on the Opportunity record.
Tried enablling, disabling and renaming, with no luck  


Reason

A character was not specified in the “Alternate Name Setup” in System manager for “Alternate name” to appear in the opportunity.
A blank selection (or no character in the separator box) means alternate name is not enabled and will not be visible


 

Resolution

Steps to enable "Alternate Name" on the opportunity page.
1. Login to System Manager
2. Expand User Interface
3. Select Metadata
4. From the Entity type drop select “Opportunity” then select the field label “Alternate name”
5. Under the Modify Metadata Settings section check the box beside “Field is required and the user must enter data”
6. Click Save.
7. Then expand General Setup
8. Select Alternate Name Setup
9. In the ‘Separator:” box enter a character , hyphen (-)
10. Then click Save.
Login to Enterprise and edit an opportunity, the “Alternate name” now appears.

Note: The Web services must be restarted in order to propagate the changes throughout the entire application.
