Should demand reports created in Report Designer be ran in real time or scheduled?

QUESTION
Should demand reports, like those created in Report Designer, be run in real time or through the scheduler? I am seeking Changepoint Support’s guidance on this because we developed some demand reports that take some time to run interactively (like 4-5 minutes). I’m afraid if we have 3 or 4 people running those reports concurrently it will cause our production server to slow down considerably or possibly crash the user sessions or server.

ANSWER
Q1: Do demand reports unconditionally pull a lot of data?
1. Yes. For example Resource Demand pulls the following Data
• Demand: is based on the existing and new work proposed for the organization.
• Capacity: takes into account current work (engagement and project/task assignments) in progress and work included in resource availability planning (calendar entries).
• Demand items: are the items being analyzed. Items are opportunities, project portfolios, engagements, requests, projects and project team entries.

Q2: Is that data pulled back to your local workstation?
• Resources that have permission to the report will have to run the report from their Workstation.

Q3: If the data is pulled back to your local workstation, does front end filtering reduce the amount of data returned to your local workstation?
• See answer for Q2. Front end filtering will render the report completion quicker

Q4: I am seeking Changepoint Support’s guidance on this because these reports take 4-5 minutes to run interactively and I’m afraid if we have 3 or 4 people running those reports concurrently it will cause our production server to slow down considerably or possibly crash the user sessions or server. What is Changepoint’s recommendation regarding running the demand reports I sent you – would it be better to run them in real time or through the scheduler?
• It is highly recommended that the demand reports be scheduled during non-peak hours, as the report(s) will require amount of time in gathering the required information.
Also, we suggest having only 1 user to be accessing/running the report to minimize latency to the server
