1. Start building your SQL statement in a Query Analyzer window, using the table names and field names
2. Make sure that the statement is complete and free of errors, ask for help from an SQL developer if required
3. Copy the text between “SELECT” and “FROM”, into Report Designer, Custom Field dialog
4. Replace the field names by the appropriate fields in the list, one by one, as follows:

• Select and delete the first field reference in the formula, leave the cursor blinking at that position
• Find the corresponding field from the field list in the same dialog window, and double-click to add the field to your formula
• The field reference will be inserted into the formula, at the cursor position
• Continue with the next field in the formula
