RMV and overbooking for virtual resources (2010, 2010 SP1)

SYMPTOMS:
There are virtual resources which have 0-hour capacity, configured in individual resource profiles.

In RMV, we would expect to have them marked with red each time they are allocated to a project or opportunity. Instead, they are displayed as having 40-hours capacity, and the capacity calculations are based on 40 hours per week availability.

REASON:
When the hours-per-day in resource profile is 0, the global hours-per-day setting in "System Manager -> General Setup -> Hours per Day Setup" is used.

The reason is that the resource hrs-per-day is set to 0 by default for a new resource record therefore there is no way to tell if 0 is a deliberate choice or not.

WORKAROUND:
The alternative is to gather all virtual resources in a single workgroup, and set “% availability for planned work” to 0 for this workgroup.

Note that in such cases where the capacity is deliberately set to 0, over-booking is not calculated in RMV screen. Therefore the red color, which would normally be used for over-booked resources, is not used for 0 availability resources.
