Technical Alert - Chrome Users: Entities remain locked after edit window has been closed

Symptoms

Users of the latest version of Chrome 73 will experience the following issue: After an entity (e.g. an engagement or an invoice) has been edited and the respective window has been closed, the lock is not released and the entity cannot be edited by other users.


Reason

This issue is caused by a change in behavior of Chrome. Certain operations are no longer allowed when a window is closed. This includes posting back to the server to release the lock in Changepoint.

Resolution

Changepoint Development is aware of the issue and actively working on a solution.

Meanwhile, affected users should use Internet Explorer or FireFox. Chrome users that are still on an older version (<73) should avoid to upgrade (disable automatic updates if enabled).

Update

Meanwhile Google has withdrawn the change that caused this problem, so at this point in time (end of April 2019) this is not an issue any more. The change might however be reintroduced by Google into a later release of Chrome.
