Differences in project actuals and budget actuals despite both using replace past with actuals (2014)

SYMPTOMS

Despite using replace past with actuals in both projects and budgets, the total actual effort seems to be different between the two.

 

ANSWER

Please check if projects and budgets use the same fiscal periods.

Example: The project uses monthly fiscal periods and the budget uses half-year fiscal periods. In that case, there is a difference what is considered past. E.g. in May, the project would consider Jan-Apr as past fiscal periods and Changepoint would replace planned with actuals. However, in the budget Jan-Apr is still part of the current period and hence replace past with actuals does not occur. Thus the values can be different between project and budget.
