Caveats when switching from using PPW or RSW to project worksheet or RMW

This article describes important information to know about switching from using the project planning worksheet (PPW) or resource scheduling worksheet (RSW) to project worksheet or resource management worksheet (RMW).

Allocating planned effort to nonworking days

In PPW and RSW, planned effort can be manually allocated to nonworking days, which is not possible in either the project worksheet or RMW.

Using RMW when planned effort is allocated to nonworking days

If planned effort is allocated to nonworking days in PPW or RSW, and the demand item is subsequently updated in RMW, it will not be possible to save the worksheet because it does not support planned effort on nonworking days.

The user must manually redistribute the planned effort to working days, or If the demand item is a task assignment, the user could also change the loading method to an auto-distribute method so that the planned effort is automatically redistributed to working days.

Using the project worksheet when planned effort is allocated to nonworking days

In project worksheet, planned effort on nonworking days is not displayed. If the user changes the task assignment, for example by updating the planned effort on any working day and then saving, the effort on nonworking days is lost, and the total planned effort will be recalculated based on the effort on working days.

To avoid losing the planned effort on nonworking days, the user must either redistribute the effort manually or change to an auto-distribute loading method (to automatically redistribute the effort) before saving the project worksheet.

Draft tasks created in PPW could be activated in project worksheet

If users created draft tasks in PPW, and then in project worksheet makes changes that affect the work breakdown structure (WBS) such as reordering tasks above the draft tasks in the WBS, the draft tasks will be automatically activated when the project worksheet is saved.
