Changepoint 2017 General Patches (GPs) - What's New

To get the fixes and access to the latest enhancements, be sure to always install the GPs as they are released. The GPs are available in the 2017 Release Notes and Patches folder in team folders.

This article lists the enhancements to the project planning worksheet (PPW) functionality that is included in the GPs. For complete information, see the patch release notes.

"Forgot your password?” link in Changepoint and Client Portal sign-in dialogs

When a user—either a resource or a Client Portal user—forgets their password, they can click the Forgot your password? link in the Changepoint sign-in dialog box. They will be sent an email that includes a temporary password.

Options to replace planned effort or forecast effort in PPW

Users have the following options to replace planned effort or forecast effort in PPW:

  • Replace planned effort with past actual effort plus forecast effort
  • Replace past planned effort with actual effort
  • Replace forecast remaining effort with planned effort minus actual effort

There are new settings to control the default behavior of the options.

Set Actual Finish date when marking tasks or assignments as complete in PPW

When a task or task assignment that has no time entered for it is marked as complete in PPW, you can specify the Actual Finish date.

Entering time for summary tasks

Now by default, users can enter time for both summary tasks and their subtasks. During rollup, the
amounts from the subtasks are added to the summary task amounts. The functionality is also supported in the mobile web application as well as the mobile app.

To prevent users from entering time for summary tasks, project managers can do the following:

  • Do not assign users to the summary task
  • Select the Locked check box on the summary task and its task assignments to prevent time entry.

Allocate effort in daily or fiscal periods cells by using a formula

You can click in a daily or fiscal period cell and enter a formula to allocate or distribute effort over a number of fiscal periods.

To allocate the same effort amount to a specified number of daily or fiscal periods:

[effort amount] x [number of daily or fiscal periods]

For example, entering "8 x 10" into a daily or fiscal period cell would allocate 8 planned hours into 10 consecutive daily or fiscal periods, starting from the current cell.

To distribute an effort amount evenly over a number of daily or fiscal periods:

[effort amount] / [number daily or fiscal periods]

For example, entering "40/5" into a daily or fiscal period cell would distribute the 40 planned hours over 5 daily or fiscal periods, starting from the current cell.

WBS column can be added to task assignment view

Users can more easily distinguish the WBS structure from a task assignment view.

"Planned minus actual" and "Planned remaining" columns can be added to task and assignment views

These columns provide useful information for users to determine the state of completion of a project at a glance, and to ensure that their current and future effort assignments are realistic.

Copy values from a row down to multiple rows

Values from a row can be copied down to multiple rows, which allows users to add or change values for many rows quickly and easily.

Support for task dependencies between projects

Users can create task dependencies between projects, which allows PPW to be used for more types of projects.

Select a different resource for a task assignment

Users can change an assigned resource in the task assignment view.

Replace one or more resources at once

You can replace one or more resources with another resource for either an entire project or for multiple tasks within a project. This is useful when a resource is leaving the company or being moved from the project, or to replace generic resources with actual resources when project templates are used as a starting point.

Launch reports from PPW

Users can set up reports to be run from PPW.
