Question

We are noticing that some of the Cognos reports are getting set to 'view most recent report'. There are 2 observations:

1. When a report gets set to 'view most recent report', it shows the output from when it got set to 'view most recent report'. When we run the report, it doesn't display the filter page and displays the old output.

2. Recently we have been noticing that some of the reports are set as 'view most recent report' but when we run the report, it runs like a regular report and asks to select options from filter page. Report output is showing most up to date information as well.

How does a report get set to 'view most recent report'?

Why are some reports that are set as 'view most recent report' running like regular reports and displaying accurate information?

How can we stop this from happening in future?

Answer

You can set the default run option in Cognos Connection, report properties. Editing the report should not change the option. The default option for a new report is ‘view most recent report’, and will remain that way unless it is changed for the report in Cognos Connection, report properties.

As to why some reports appear to run real-time, it may be because there is no saved version available. If that’s the case, then the report will run real-time.

Saved version of a report can be created if someone accidentally click to create saved version of a report.

The folder permissions can be changed in Cognos connection so that consumers do not have ‘write’ access to the folder.
