New Requests! (aka Requests revamp)

This feature will be rolled out over the course of several releases ("rolling beta").

We will update this list every month to indicate when/what additional features will be included.

Legacy requests will continue to be supported for the foreseeable future. You can use legacy requests and new requests side-by-side while you set up the new requests to your liking. Since the new model is different from the legacy in several key ways, we are not planning an automated migration at this time.

Current functionality (rolling beta)

  • Gate Skipping!
  • UI for API (Admin/WSAPI). This page displays the Request entity and the corresponding Fields link, which displays a list of all fields on a request that can be accessed using the API. Current API support for request creation only; submission happens via the UI.
  • Configure multiple approvers
  • Ability to map most fields (including pre-SSA lists) from requests to other entities. Support for mapping any human resource field to entity owner, as well as support for mapping a department list field on the request to a department field on a project.
  • Out-of-the- box filters
  • Ability to associate/create projects after request approval
  • Ability to copy categories, including gates
  • Sequential Gates
  • Single Approver
  • Approval notifications
  • Ability to disable "New" for legacy requests
  • Scoring
  • Ability to edit tabs, if configured, other than Details when creating a request
  • Ability to report on associations - both directions
  • Ability to associate new and existing projects, tasks and issues
  • Ability to copy notes and attachments to associated entities
  • Request Gantt chart report
  • Request category-based permissions
  • Basic Reporting
  • Self-service administration for configuring request types
  • New graphical, status-based card view

Transitioning from Legacy to New Requests

Domain change for PPM Pro!

innotas.com -> ppmpro.com

In order to align our users' experience with the branding which was rolled out in the beginning of 2018, starting with the October 2019 sandbox release on Oct 11, then the production release on Oct 25th, you will access PPM Pro through a new domain name, ppmpro.com.  For example, if you currently access PPM Pro at mycompanyname.innotas.com you will now use mycompanyname.ppmpro.com.

To make this transition as smooth as possible, we will redirect connections to innotas.com to ppmpro.com for the foreseeable future.  This will give ample time to update links, bookmarks, integrations, and so on.

You do not need to take any immediate action.

Things you can optionally do now, in preparation for the change:

  • review any organization firewall, proxy, and email policies.  Anywhere you have innotas.com on your allowlist, add an entry for ppmpro.com.  Having both in place for a time will allow for a smooth transition
  • if you have created email filter allowlists for alerts_innotas@innotas.com,  add an entry for alerts@ppmpro.com (i.e. have both in place for a time)
  • inform your end users so they're expecting the change

Things you can optionally do after the October release at your leisure:

  • update any links to PPM Pro, including published dashboards (intranet sites, sharepoint, documentation, and so on).  Again, we'll have redirects in place so existing links to innotas.com will continue to work but it would be the least confusing if links from these sites are updated to use ppmpro.com
  • change any integrations not managed by Planview to use ppmpro.com (redirects will be in place to give you time to do this)
  • update any SSO configuration.  Currently, we use innotas.com as the SAML issuer ID.  There's no requirement that this match the URLs being used but it's less confusing to administrators if it does.  Contact customer care to help plan your SSO updates.

Please contact customer care if you have any questions regarding this change and also be sure to check the FAQ.

Deprecate task-level expenses

Project-level financials was made generally available (GA) for all customers in October 2018. We will begin to enforce the transition away from task-level expenses on the year anniversary.

Phase 1 - October 2019: The ability to create new task level expense estimates will be disabled (New button removed). This will prevent the creation of new expense estimates.

Phase 2: The task level expense facility will remain visible but view only. This will allow you to run reports on historical data. We will leave this enabled until we are sure that there is no longer any need for this data.

As always, if you are already not using this feature and would like it removed so it doesn't confuse anyone, please enter a Customer Care Case and ask to disable the New button or the entire feature for your organization.

Release Notes

Function Area ID Release Note Description
Alerts, Staffing 808245536 Fixed. Staffing alerts are sent to the newly staffed resource when the resource is added by typing in the resource name to replace the No Resource placeholder under a role. Previously, an alert was sent only if the resource was added using Add Resource or Staff Resource.
Calculated Fields 882481694 Fixed. GetRelatedEntityValue works as expected for the resource entity. Previously, calculated fields using this function on resources returned no values.
Display, Rich Text Editor 903020399
906442436
Fixed. When viewing PPM Pro in presentation mode, text in the rich text editor can be formatted as expected. Previously, an issue caused all text to appear bolded when using the Presentation display theme.
Issues 906698893

Fixed. The Data Import now supports the same permissions as the UI with regard to importing project logs/issues. Resource must be either be:

  • the project owner
  • the issue creator/current user/member of the project team

Previously, an issue caused an error to be thrown when attempting to import members of the project team.

Permissions, Finance Fields 745894943

Updated: 11/4/19

Fixed. The project-level finances project included bringing financial functionality under the new permissions model ("profile-based permissions"). That is, in order to see the project Financials section and other financial fields, a user needs to have permission to View/Edit project Forecasts and project Actuals. As of the October release, users also need these permission to see the Total Forecast Entries and Total Actual Entries fields on the project. Most likely you already have project Forecasts and Actuals configured using permissions - but if the Total Forecast Entries and Total Actuals Entries fields suddenly disappear from your project, you simply need to give the appropriate users permission to View or Edit project Forecasts and/or project Actuals.

If you would like members of the ICV group to be able to view and edit all financial entries, you can easily accomplish this by adding a group rule for the ICV group to an appropriate permission profile.

Permissions, Financial Entries 905421602

Projects 894504252 Improved. When creating a project from a template, the Owner field will now default to the current user. Previously, the value of the template's Owner field was used by default when creating a project from a template, which resulted in the specified resource receiving a large number of email alerts. More often than not, the resource configured as the owner is not actually the appropriate resource, but was left configured as the Owner from a previous use of the template. More likely the current user (who is creating the project) is a better default for project Owner. Note that when using the WS API to create a project from a template, the value of the Owner field WILL be used.
Projects 901416655 Fixed. Project dependencies work as expected. Previously, adding soft dependencies to newly created projects was occasionally throwing an error in certain circumstances.
Projects 883648161
889778879
Fixed. Project grid settings, such as column fields, field size, and locked fields, are sticky (retained) per category. Previously, an issue was causing these settings to be lost when users switched categories, requiring the user to frequently reconfigure.
Reports 888534711 Fixed. The Department field can be added to a Gantt chart report definition as expected. Previously, in certain scenarios, the use of a UDF that points to a resource list prevented the Department field from being added to the chart definition.
Reports, Tasks, Gantt 899944716 Fixed. Tasks gantt reports run and return expected results. Previously, an issue was preventing the gantt chart report from running.
Resource Workbench 839577504 Fixed. After changing a task schedule - for example, extend the task dates - in a task-level resource planning (bottom-up) project, the Resource Workbench reflects the updated utilization percentage in a minute or so. Previously an issue was causing a delay in refreshing the utilization value.
SSA, List Fields 892288997 Fixed. User-defined lists fields that are based on the Picklist: Active Resources/Active Users works as expected. Previously, when applying the field to a Details panel, the filter value would be limited to resources, while on Available Fields the filter value would be limited to users. Now the filter values for a UDF based on Picklist: All Active Resources/Active Users are consistent.
Tasks, Scheduling 874079069 Fixed. When scheduling a resource to a task, the Find Other dialog displays the correct number of hours. Previously, an issue caused the values to be calculated incorrectly if the resource was staffed multiple times to the project.
Tasks, Calendars 885990618 Fixed. After selecting a task calendar that differs from the project calendar, the task start and target dates are updated to reflect the working hours of the task calendar. Previously, an issue prevented the tasks dates from being update in response to the new task calendar.
Tasks, Filters 901817514 Fixed. Multi-select task filters using Is and Is Not operators work as expected. Previously, multi-select field task filters that used these operators were not producing expected results.
Tasks, MSP 882469711 Improved. MSP tasks that use elapsed days ("edays") will no longer error out upon import. When importing into PPM Pro, use the property "Import All Tasks as Manually Scheduled (MSP controls scheduling)". Note that this simply allows the tasks to be imported without errors using the MSP task start and target dates, but ignores the duration format "edays". As a result, the duration format shown after import will be "days".
