Additional updates as necessary To support our goal of getting working features to customers faster, we may deliver a release outside of the monthly cycle to provide new, low-risk functionality and/or essential issue fixes.

Releases are deployed during the standard maintenance windows.

Reminders

  • New: The December release cycle has been moved forward to accommodate the holidays and vacations: November 27 Release Notes Posted, December 4 Sandbox Release, December 11 Production Release.
  • Features that are ready will enter GA status in the first month's release of each calendar quarter: January, April, July, October. There will be an occasional variance from this schedule. You can enter a support request to move a beta feature into your production environment.
  • You can request that beta features be enabled in your production environment by entering a support ticket (some beta features not initially available in production, Planview will advise). Please note that any issues you find will be handled during the normal development cycle. 
  • Planview sends out status emails in advance of planned releases/updates. These alerts include the date and time window of the update, as well as a link to the release notes that include a list of the issues addressed in the update/release. To subscribe to these alerts, please go to https://status.planview.com/ and click the Subscribe button.
  • We hold a live product release webinar - typically on the Wednesday before the production release. This webinar will be hosted by PPM Pro product management and consulting personnel, and will include time for Q&A. Click here to register for the November 18th release webinar.   • Inner circles are offered as a way for our interested customers to collaborate with PPM Pro Product Management and each other, provide feedback on PPM Pro product capabilities, and guide new feature development. Click here for more information or to register.

Dashboards Revamp

Adjustable Color Palette

There is a new lookup list in Admin/Setup/Lookup Lists called Organization Color Palette. This list allows you to rearrange and add/remove the colors used across the system. Other areas that will be informed by this list are request cards/kanban, portfolio hierarchy chart, gantt charts (project and task), and any report type that uses color not governed by a lookup list.

DECEMBER RELEASE DATES

Due to the proximity to the end-of-year holidays, vacations, and our commitment to customer success, we are shifting the December release dates one week earlier:

  • the release notes will be posted by 11/30
  • the December sandbox release will be on Friday the 4th
  • the December production release will be on Friday the 11th
 

Sunsetting Internet Explorer 11 March 31, 2021

Please see End of Internet Explorer 11 Support for more information, including Microsoft's own plans for deprecating IE11.

Planview's plan is as follows:

  • Between now and the end of the year we will be on limited support, which means that from now on, we will not fix IE11 bugs unless they are critical​:

    • Bugs resulting in cosmetic, layout, or performance issues will no longer be fixed, and another browser will be recommended​.

    • Customer and internal critical bugs will be reviewed for potential fixes​.

  • Beginning December 31, 2020 we will be on very limited support:​

    • We will no longer be testing IE11​.

    • Only critical bugs reported by customers will be triaged, with no guarantee of a fix​.

  • We will completely stop support as of March 31, 2021​.

 
Support for Iterative Work Management (IWM)

IWM supports iterative planning methodologies that by definition are de-coupled from dates and schedules. This allows you, for example, to plan phases by time and dependencies, but then pool the actual work done in those phases into IWM tasks/cards. This feature lays the groundwork for tighter integration with LeanKit, which is targeted later this year/early next year.

Multiple Owners for Tasks

The task Owners field will allow you to select multiple resources. All owners are granted implicit owner permissions (including Time users), meaning they can view and edit on Home/Tasks. The multi-select field also lays the groundwork for phase 2 integrations with LeanKit and Projectplace.

Improved. When a user with an active session opens a new tab or window within the same browser session, they will be directed to the application rather than the login screen. To log out completely, either use the "Log out" menu option or close the browser completely.

Fixed. Re-authenticating works as expected. Previously users would on rare occasions see a screen of JSON immediately after re-authenticating following a long period of inactivity.

Fixed. Recurring calendar events work as expected even if the event is originally configured to end after a specific number of occurrences, and is then modified to end on a specific date. Previously, an issue prevented the adjustment of the end date to be saved.

New. There is a new relative date filter option called "is this year", which means you don't have to update those pesky hard-coded filters every year.

Fixed. Filters on associated tasks or resources scheduled to tasks that use the contains operator work as expected. Previously an issue caused the filter to return all tasks, rather than those that met the filter criteria.

Fixed. The portfolio Project Associations tab loads in a timely fashion, as expected, even if the associated projects have a large number of calculated fields.

New. Portfolio associations have been added to the list of elements that can be copied over to a new project when creating that project from a template. After selecting a project template (that includes Portfolio associations), the list of template elements includes Portfolios. When you check the box to include Portfolios, you'll see an additional setting called "Assign % to include for all portfolios". You can take the default of 100%, change the value, or use the same values the template project uses.

Fixed. You can select a project health profile (choose from droplist) and save, as expected. Previously, after making the change and saving, the value reverted to "None".

Requests, Filters 1099652412

New. A new filter field "All Past Approvers" has been added. This allows the creation of filters that return, for example, all approvers of a request, or all all requests a specific user has approved - note that all gate approvals are included. Does not take into account pending approvals, only approvals that have already happened.

Fixed. When a gated request is put on hold, all the fields that were shown on new will be shown, with the same edit rights as when the request was initially in the "new" state. The behavior will be consistent even if you repeatedly put the request On Hold and Back in Progress. Previously, an issue prevented editing any fields if the request had previously been placed On Hold.

Fixed. Approved and rejected requests display all Details fields from all gates, not just the fields at the final gate.

New. All request action-based notifications, such as those sent on Approve or Place On Hold, are captured in the Activity Log and will not display in the Notes tab. Explicit notes created by users are logged in the Notes section. This separation was done so users can more clearly see their custom notes, and make them easier to report on ("Notes: Latest" for example).

Fixed. When copying a request, the current user is shown in the Created By field in the Activity log of the new request. Previously, the creator of the original request was still listed as the creator instead of the current user, who is creating the request from a copy.

Resource Workbench 1324180962

Improved. When hovering over a resource in the top pane of the resource workbench, if the resource is allocated to more than 10 projects, the label <and N more> will be displayed at the bottom of the list. Previously, only 10 projects max could be displayed, with no indication that there were additional projects that were not being displayed. 

Timesheet, Lookup Lists 1318096139

Fixed. Creating calendar events works as expected when the "Other" administrative time option has been deactivated - the new event defaults to Working Hours with the From/To radio button selected. Previously, an issue caused the new event to default to "Working" with the All Day radio button selected and did not allow the user to enter the non-working hours. 

Timesheets 1272447649

Fixed. The user-action timesheet alert "Last PM/alternate PM approver approves timesheet" works as expected by sending a notification email to the final approver. Previously, an issue caused duplicate emails to be sent to the final approver.
