About HTC

Project managers typically use the Hours To Complete (HTC) field to estimate how much work is left to do for a task. They can view the value on the Task view, or pull the value into a report.

Your organization can decide whether or not to configure PPM Pro to automatically adjust HTC based on timesheet actuals. If you do not use HTC in this way, then ignore the rest of this topic. To enable HTC for your organization, ask your PPM Pro administrator to go the Admin/Organization/Timesheet Settings and enable the property "Automatically adjust Task hours to complete (HTC) based on timesheet actuals". See Configuring Timesheet Settings for more information.

When you assign a resource to a task (also known as creating a task schedule), the Scheduled Hours value you enter on the task Scheduling tab is also the initial HTC value. When you enter hours, HTC will decrease; when you remove hours, HTC will increase. Deleting the entry from the timesheet will increase HTC by the number of hours removed. Note that if there are no actuals and a user changes Scheduled hours (AND prior to the update Scheduled Hours still matched HTC), then HTC will be updated to continue to match scheduled hours. 

The table below steps through an example.

Note: In addition to automatically adjusting HTC based on timesheet actuals, you can also display the HTC column on timesheets by enabling the timesheet setting "Allow users to view and edit HTC on timesheet entries". Note that if you have a timesheet entry that has not been scheduled, the HTC field (if using) will not be editable. See Configuring Timesheet Settings.
