Review Rating

Introduction

Once there are two reviews of an idea, a review rating is automatically calculated based on a reputation-weighted average of the review score.

How it Works/How to Set Up Review Criteria

You can set up review criteria by clicking on Administration > Idea Management > Evaluation Templates, and adding evaluation templates for Evaluation File, Evaluation Form, and Review Form. You can set up the specific criteria you want to use and the values for each of the criteria when you edit the file/form.

Planview IdeaPlace calculates the review rating for an idea by multiplying the rating on the review by the weight of the specific review criteria.

Sample Review Rating Calculation

When you combine the review scores on any idea, you get the review ratings, which are weighted by reputation. So if a user with a reputation of 100 reviews the idea and gives it a review score of 3.0, and a user with a reputation of 50 reviews the idea and gives it a review score of 4.0, the review rating will be 3.33 (100x3 + 50x4) / (100 + 50) which is a basic weighted average. If the review rating were not taking into account reputation, the rating would be 3.5.

Review Rating Example 1

In this example, disruptive potential is weighted more highly than the business model and the management team.

The Ratings you give an idea are either a null value, 1, 2 or 3.

Therefore, if you were to review an idea and rate as follows:

Disruptive potential as good (3)

Business model as fair (2)

Management team as fair (2)

Result: Review rating is 2.4.

We arrive at this number by:

Multiplying:

5x3 for the Disruptive Potential Score = 15

3x2 for the Business Model Score = 6

3x2 for the Management Team Score = 6

Add the three scores together (15+6+6) = 27

Divide by the total of the weights (5+3+3) = 11

Result: The review rating of (27/11) = 2.4

Result of Even Weighting

In this case you simply add the three scores together (3 + 2 + 2) = 7 and divide by 3 (since there is no weight, you simply use the number of review criteria) and this results in a review rating of 2.3.

Review Rating Example 2

When you combine the review scores on any idea, you get the review ratings, which are reputation-weighted.

If there are two users with different reputations, the resulting score is shown in the following example:

User with a reputation of 100 reviews the idea with a review score of 3.0

User with a reputation of 50 reviews the idea with a review score of 4.0

The combined review rating is 3.33 (100x3 + 50x4) / (100 + 50). This is a basic weighted average.

If it were not taking into account reputation, the review rating would be 3.5.

FAQs

Q. Which Widget / Metric reflects above description?

A. The review scores can be viewed from the Idea's page by adding the view_all_tasks_fresh or idea_review_scores_fresh widgets to the ViewIdea page (NOT the ViewIdeas page)  in the Site Editor. In addition, this will enable you to view individual scores before they've been averaged to create the final rating. Simply click an idea title, then scroll to the bottom of the page where you can view the review scores and final rating. In the Evaluation tab, you must select a stage from the dropdown menu, that contains ideas with completed reviews, for example, the Expert Review stage.
