Issues Accessing Read or Edit Versions of Documents

If you don't get the Read or Edit option when opening a document, it is possible that you have not yet installed the Projectplace document add-on. If you have installed the add-on, you might not get the Read or Edit option because the add-on is not working or it is blocked. The instructions below should help you troubleshoot if the add-on is not working properly.

To get these options the Projectplace document add-on has to be installed and running.

Ensure the add-on is working

  1. Right-click on the Projectplace icon app_icon.png.
  2. If multiple options appear, the add-on is properly installed.

Windows users: The Projectplace icon is located at the bottom, right corner of the display, though it might be hidden under the arrow.

Mac users: The Projectplace icon is located at the top, right corner of the display and is always visible.

Verify if You Are Logged In

Right-click the Projectplace icon Projectplace Icon.png and select Log in. Here you can log into the add-on with the same email address and password you use when logging in from the browser.

If the login option doesn't appear, choose Preferences. This will allow you to check whether you are logged in with the correct email address.

If you log in with Single sign-on or if two-step verification is activated for your user account, you will need to use an app password to complete the log in process.

Add-on Installed But Not Working

For Windows Users:

  1. Launch the task manager, then press CTRL+ALT+DEL.

  3. Locate Projectplace.exe.
  4. Right-click and select End Task.

Proxy

If you are working on a company network that uses a proxy, add the Server Address and Port number to the Projectplace add-on. This information can be obtained from your company’s IT department.

  2. Click Preferences.
  3. Select the Network tab.
  4. Click the Use proxy checkbox and add the necessary information.

Changes to the Proxy password are indicated by a notification that there is no Internet connection. To resolve, click the notification and update the password.

The Projectplace for Windows add-on uses port 54402The port used can be set manually by right-clicking the Projectplace for Windows icon in the taskbar. Select Preferences/Advanced and set a port number between 1024 – 66535.

Firewall

Microsoft Edge Browser

To enable the add-on in Microsoft Edge, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Edge browser.
  2. In the URL field, type: about:flags.
  3. Under Developer Settings click the Allow localhost loopback checkbox.

Although this setting comes with the warning: This might put your device at risk, Projectplace and its Add-ons are safe to use.

Recovering a Document

If open a document in Edit mode and the changes you made have not been saved to Projectplace:

  1. Make sure you have the Projectplace add-on installed.
  2. Locate the document on your computer:
    1. Windows: C:\Users\<your Windows user name>\Projectplace\Downloads
    2. Mac: /Users/<your Mac user name>/Projectplace/Downloads

You can also right-click the Projectplace App icon Projectplace Icon.png from the Windows Taskbar (or Mac Launchbar). Select Preferences and in the window that appears, click the Open folder button. If the document is not located in the Projectplace/Downloads folder, go to the Downloads or Recent Documents folder of the application the document was created in (e.g. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc). If, however, the document is not saved in Projectplace or found on your local computer, it is likely that the document is not saved and in that case, cannot be recovered or restored.
