OKR Health Calculations
The section below provides a summary of the data used to calculate and evaluate the progress of Objectives and Key Results, based on the timeframe selected.
Objective Progress
- Key Result Average - Take the average % of all Objectives in the view and round to the nearest whole number.
- Example: Objectives 1-3 below would be averaged as ((60+20+50)/3) = 43%
- Target Average – Take the average % of the on-track target for all objectives in the view and round to the nearest whole number.
- Example: Objectives 1-3 below would be averaged as ((50+40+100)/3) = 63%
- In Progress – The In Progress count includes Objectives with today’s date between their start and finish dates.
- Ahead – Objectives that are ahead of the projected progress
- Example: Objective 1 is ahead because it is 60%, with on target being 50%
- On Track – Objectives that have a percentage minus 10% from the projected progress, inclusively
- Behind – Objectives 10% or more behind the projected progress
- Example: Objective 2 is behind because it is 20% complete when on target is 40%.
- Ahead – Objectives that are ahead of the projected progress
- Finished – The Finished count includes Objectives with a finish date before today's date.
- On Target – Objectives that finished within 10% of the projection, which in the case of finished objectives is between 90 to 100%.
- Below Target – Objectives that finished more than 10% later than projected, which in the case of finished objectives is less than 90%
- Example: Objective 3 is behind because it is 50% complete when on target is 100%.
NOTE
Objectives cannot be greater than 100%.
Objective Progress Example Data:
- Objective 1: 60% progress
- Start Date: 1/1/2021
- Target Date: 12/31/2021
- Today’s Date: 7/2/2021 (half point of the year – therefore its on-track target % is 50% as of today.)
- Objective 2: 20% progress
- Start Date: 3/1/2021
- Target Date: 12/31/2021
- Today’s Date: 7/2/2021 (the on-track target is 40% as of today)
- Objective 3: 50% progress
- Start Date: 1/1/2021
- Target Date: 5/31/2021
- Today’s Date: 7/2/2021 (since the target date is before today, the on-track target is 100%)
Key Result Progress
- Key Result Average – Take the average % of all key results in the view. Key Results with progress over 100% are treated as 100%. Key Results with negative progress are considered as 0%.
- Target Average – Take the average % of the on-track target for all Key Results in the view and round to the nearest whole number.
- In Progress – The In Progress count includes Key Results with today’s date between their start and finish dates.
- Ahead – Key Results that are ahead of the projected progress
- On Track – Key Results that have a percentage minus 10% from the projected progress.
- Example: Key Result 1a is at 80% vs 86% projected progress, and Key Result 2a is at 40% vs 50%, which means they both are on track because both are within 10% of the target.
- Behind – Key Results that are more than 10% behind the projected progress
- Example: Key Result 1b is behind because it is 20% complete when on target is 40%.
- Finished – The Finished count includes Key Results with finish dates before today's date.
- Over Target – Key Results that finished above 100%
- On Target – Key Results that finished within 10% of the projected results, which in the case of completed key results is between 90 to 100%
- Below Target – Key Results more than 10% below the projected results. In the case of completed key results, less than 90%.
- Example: Key Result 1c is behind because it is 50% complete when on target is 100%.
Key Result Progress Example:
- Objective 1: 60% progress
- Key Result 1a: Last Value @ 80; progress 80%
- Start Date: 1/1/2021
- Start Value: 0
- Target Date: 7/31/2021
- Target Value: 100
- Today’s Date: 7/2/2021 – We are 86% of the way between the start and target dates. Key Result 1a is on track since the difference between 86 and 80 is less than or equal to 10.
- Start Date: 1/1/2021
- Key Result 2a: Last Value @ 6; progress 40%
- Start Date: 1/1/2021
- Start Value: 0
- Target Date: 12/31/2021
- Target Value: 15
- Today’s Date: 7/2/2021 – We are 50% of the way between the start and target dates. Key Result 2a is on track since the difference between 50 and 40 is less than or equal to 10.
- Start Date: 1/1/2021
- Key Result 1a: Last Value @ 80; progress 80%
- Objective 2: 20% progress
- Key Result 1b: Last Value @ 2; progress 20%
- Start Date: 3/1/2021
- Start Value: 0
- Target Date: 12/31/2021
- Target Value: 10
- Today’s Date: 7/2/2021 – We are 40% of the way between the start and target dates. Key Result 1b is behind since the difference between 40 and 20 is greater than 10.
- Start Date: 3/1/2021
- Key Result 1b: Last Value @ 2; progress 20%
- Objective 3: 50% progress
- Key Result 1c: Last Value @ 25; progress 50%
- Start Date: 1/1/2021
- Start Value: 0
- Target Date: 5/31/2021
- Target Value: 50
- Today’s Date: 7/2/2021 – Since the target date is before today's date, the projected progress should be 100%. Key Result 1c is behind since the difference between 100 and 50 is greater than 10.
- Start Date: 1/1/2021
- Key Result 1c: Last Value @ 25; progress 50%
