Associate resources with Groups using a Rates Group

Users can be members of a group and also have references to other entities such as Job title. Using a Rates Group you can associate a resource with one Group for the purpose of inheriting rates, in addition to the same resource being a Member of one ore more other groups. For example, John Smith gets his Cost and Billing rates from the "Application X"  Rates Group (since rates are different across applications), but his capacity is managed as part of the geographic "EMEA"  resourcing group. In this case, the Rates Group along with the Job Title (since this is a User resource) determines which Group Job Title the resource's Cost and Billing rate should be taken from.

A Rates Group can be associated with the following resource types:

  • Users
  • Assets
  • User Placeholders
  • Asset Placeholders

Associating resources with a Rates Group

Rates Group is a field located on the resource referencing the User Group

  1. Go to the appropriate Resources list (for example via the People module). The list of resources appears.
  2. Under the Grid settings, Click Manage columns.
  3. Add the Rates Group column to the Grid.
  4. For a specific resource, click the three dot menu and select the group to be referenced for that resource.

The Rates Group can be updated from the resource, via data loader, or via API.  Changing the Rates Group field triggers recalculation of associated work items where the resource’s previous rates were in use.
