4-4-5 Fiscal Calendar

4-5-4 Fiscal Year (available upon request)

The 4-5-4 fiscal calendar is a specialized accounting and retail industry calendar that divides the year into 4 quarters of 13 weeks each, structured as follows:

  • 4 weeks in the first month
  • 5 weeks in the second month
  • 4 weeks in the third month
Quarter Month 1 Month 2 Month 3 Total Weeks
Q1 4 weeks 5 weeks 4 weeks 13 weeks
Q2 4 weeks 5 weeks 4 weeks 13 weeks
Q3 4 weeks 5 weeks 4 weeks 13 weeks
Q4 4 weeks 5 weeks 4 weeks 13 weeks
Total Weeks in year 52 weeks

Since there are 52 weeks in a year, this structure creates consistency in financial reporting by aligning months with the same number of weeks across years. However, every 5-6 years, an extra week (53rd week) is added to keep the calendar aligned with actual dates.

  3. In the Calendar window, click Calendar settings.

  4. In the Calendar settings window, enter a name for the fiscal year.

  6. From the Show year as drop-down list, select the desired option to define whether the fiscal year (as it appears in grouping and views) is based on the year in which it begins or ends.
  7. Select the Restated checkbox if you wish to add a 53rd week to the end of a fiscal year.
The 4-5-4 calendar divides the year into months based on a 4 weeks – 5 weeks – 4 weeks format. Due to the layout of the 4-5-4 calendar (52 weeks x 7 days = 364 days), there is one unaccounted day each year. As a result, a 53rd week is added every 5 or 6 years.
If you select the checkbox, the system will automatically add the 53rd week to the end of the appropriate year.
  8. Click Save.

Note: To avoid confusion, Gregorian calendar month labels do not appear in the various views for non-standard fiscal calendars (such as 4-5-4).
