4-5-4 Fiscal Calendar
4-4-5 Fiscal Year
The 4-4-5 fiscal calendar is a specialized accounting and financial calendar commonly used in retail, manufacturing, and hospitality industries. It divides a year into 4 quarters of 13 weeks each, structured as follows:
- 4 weeks in the first month
- 4 weeks in the second month
- 5 weeks in the third month
Quarter | Month 1 | Month 2 | Month 3 | Total Weeks |
---|---|---|---|---|
Q1 | 4 weeks | 4 weeks | 5 weeks | 13 weeks |
Q2 | 4 weeks | 4 weeks | 5 weeks | 13 weeks |
Q3 | 4 weeks | 4 weeks | 5 weeks | 13 weeks |
Q4 | 4 weeks | 4 weeks | 5 weeks | 13 weeks |
Total Weeks in year | 52 weeks |
Since a year has 52 weeks (364 days), this calendar keeps financial reporting consistent by ensuring each quarter has the same number of weeks across years. However, every 5-6 years, an extra 53rd week is added to align with the actual calendar year.

- In the Calendar settings window, enter a name for the fiscal year.
- Select the Fiscal Year checkbox and then select the 4-4-5 option from the drop-down list.
- From the Show year as drop-down list, select the desired option to define whether the fiscal year (as it appears in grouping and views) is based on the year in which it begins or ends.
- Select the Restated checkbox if you wish to add a 53rd week to the end of a fiscal year.
The 4-4-5 calendar divides the year into months based on a 4 weeks – 4 weeks – 5 weeks format. Due to the layout of the 4-4-5 calendar (52 weeks x 7 days = 364 days), there is one unaccounted day each year. As a result, a 53rd week is added every 5 or 6 years.
If you select the checkbox, the system will automatically add the 53rd week to the end of the appropriate year. - Click Save.
Note: To avoid confusion, Gregorian calendar month labels do not appear in the various views for non-standard fiscal calendars (such as 4-4-5).
