Configuring a Fiscal Calendar

Overview

AdaptiveWork customers whose fiscal year does not start on January 1, can configure their calendar to define their fiscal year.

The following options are available for Fiscal Year definition:

  • Standard
If the organization's fiscal year is based on the Gregorian calendar, but does not start on January 1, a different start date can be defined for your fiscal year.

  • 4-5-4
The 4-5-4 fiscal calendar is a specialized accounting and financial calendar commonly used in retail industry and manufacturing industries that divides the year into 4 quarters of 13 weeks each: 4 weeks in the first month / 5 weeks in the second month / 4 weeks in the third month. Each year typically has 52 weeks (364 days), meaning it shifts slightly over time compared to the standard Gregorian calendar (365/366 days per year). To adjust for this, every 5-6 years, a 53rd week is added. Visit the NRF web site to learn more about the 4-5-4 calendar.
  • 4-4-5 (available upon request)
The 4-5-4 fiscal calendar is a specialized accounting and financial calendar commonly used in retail, manufacturing and hospitality industries that divides the year into 4 quarters of 13 weeks each: 4 weeks in the first month / 4 weeks in the second month / 5 weeks in the third month. Since a year has 52 weeks (364 days), this calendar keeps financial reporting consistent by ensuring each quarter has the same number of weeks across years. However, every 5-6 years, an extra 53rd week is added to align with the actual calendar year.
  • Custom (available upon consultation with CSM / AE)
If the organization's fiscal year is not based on either the Gregorian, 4-5-4 or 4-4-5 calendars, custom calendar dates can be defined for fiscal years, provided it divides each fiscal year into 4 quarters of 3 fiscal months each.

Fiscal Year maintenance:

  • Standard, 4-5-4 and 4-4-5 Fiscal years need to be defined once: the fiscal year definition is automatically applied to each consecutive year.
  • Custom Fiscal years need to be defined & maintained via the custom calendar file upload mechanism. Read more in the dedicated Custom Calendar section below.
