User & License Types

There are different User types that can be assigned to users in the organization. The User types control the user's access to the various AdaptiveWork modules.

NOTE
AdaptiveWork is moving to a new licensing model. As part of this change, the Team Member, Time & Expense, and Requestor license types are being combined into a single Team Member license.
Existing customers can continue using their current legacy licenses based on their purchased license pool. Migration to the new licensing model will take place according to the terms of each customer’s contract.

User Type Descriptions
Full User
Full Users have access to the full work lifecycle, as well as access to create and view reports.
With 'Enhanced Permissions' enabled, organizations can also control access of Full Users, restricting them only to projects where they have a role, providing another layer of access permissions for large organizations with stricter confidentiality requirements.
Team Member
The Team Member is a consolidated User type that covers a broad range of task-focused and collaborative users. It consolidates the legacy Team Member and former Time & Expense, and Requestor user types/licenses.
Team Members can see the specific tasks assigned to them and work day to day on completing tasks, collaborating with files & discussions, and reporting timesheets and expenses. They can also work on cases and to-do tasks, participate in discussions within the Groups they belong to, and submit forms via custom actions, e.g. helpdesk tickets, PTO requests, project initiation, or change requests.
This license is suited for a wide range of users: individual contributors focused on task execution, users who primarily track time and expenses, and users from other departments who need to collaborate, submit requests, or provide input — without requiring full project management access.
External Collaborator
The External Collaborator solution & license model allows organizations to closely work with their stakeholders, share & collaborate, while addressing 2 important aspects:
- Focus the customer on what is important by providing a dedicated Customer Portal
- Maintain cost effectiveness by using a license model that allows stakeholders to get visibility into projects without the need to allocate more expensive Full licenses
Customers can leverage a portal to access their projects, files, conversations and requests. Additionally, public discussions that take place provide transparency, while remaining separate from your internal teams' private discussions.

AdaptiveWork lets you add users without a license (None in the License type picker). These users can be added as placeholders in the planning stages, before they get a permanent license.
These users cannot log in to AdaptiveWork, and cannot update work, however they can be added to Projects, and their planned hours will be calculated in the work plan. In addition, they can interact with AdaptiveWork via email.
Access to Modules by License Type
