5. Usage Considerations & Limitations

This page describes the current limitations and important usage considerations for the FTE feature. These known behaviors or constraints may affect certain workflows, configurations, or environments. Where available, workarounds and guidance are included to help you proceed successfully.

  1. The FTE Project Assignment option must be enabled separately for each project, to apply the new FTE calculation method.

  2. Projects with existing project assignments cannot be set to work with the new FTE calculation method, as to ensure those assignments are not affected unexpectedly.

  3. The FTE feature currently supports project assignments only. ►Staffing requests are not yet supported and are planned for a future release.

  4. Where FTE values don't stick.

    1. When an FTE assignment is made on an organizational calendar exception day (where work pattern hours differ from the # Default hours in a day - e.g. Friday with shorter working hours), the system correctly converts the FTE value to the corresponding working hours based on the applicable work pattern. However, the displayed FTE value is updated to reflect the fractional FTE equivalent of those hours. ► This is a product gap that will be addressed in a future release

      Example: If Default hours in a day is 8 hours, Friday is configured as a 6-hour working day, and an organizational calendar exception is created for a Friday, entering 1 FTE for that day results in an hourly value of 6 hours, but displays a value of 0.75 FTE. This represents the ratio of 6 working hours to 8 default daily hours.

    2. When a project starts or ends mid-month and FTE is assigned at the monthly level, the system correctly updates the corresponding hours for the project period. However, the displayed FTE value is adjusted to reflect only the portion of the month covered by the project.

      Example: If a project covers 13 working days in a month and 1 FTE is entered, the system may calculate 100 hours for the project period in that month. If the full monthly FTE value is 174 hours, the displayed value becomes 0.57 FTE, representing the ratio of 100 hours to 174 hours.

  5. Project Assignment FTE vs. Task Assignment FTE: In the Resource Planning layout of the Workplan, selecting the project line item displays both Project Assignment and Task Assignment values for comparison. When FTE is selected, Project Assignment is calculated using the new FTE calculation method, while Task Assignment continues to use the legacy FTE calculation method. As a result, the values may differ even when the assigned hours are the same. ►This behavior is planned to be updated in a future release so that only Project Assignments are displayed when FTE is selected in this view.If you need to compare project vs. task assignments, we recommend to switch to Hours.

  6. The Shift Dates functionality is not currently behaving consistently. We recommend not using this functionality at this time. ► A fix is planned for a future release.

  7. Tools & Integrations: With no change from the previous FTE behavior, the following features and integrations do not support FTE (legacy or new) as a resourcing unit (these areas support hours, days, weeks, months only. If your workflows depend on any of these tools, continue using hour-based values in those contexts):
