PV Admin Integration with Planview AdaptiveWork – FAQ

Is PV Admin mandatory for AdaptiveWork customers?

No. PV Admin is not mandatory for all customers at this time.

However, customers who want:

  • Use Planview Shared Services (Roadmaps, .ME, etc.)

  • Centralized Authentication and access to the different Planview products

  • Centralized SSO management

will benefit from moving to PV Admin.

Authentication & SSO

How does SSO work with PV Admin and AdaptiveWork?

If PV Admin SSO is enabled:

  1. Users authenticate via the configured Identity Provider (e.g., Okta, Azure AD).

  2. PV Admin validates the user.

  3. The user is granted access to AdaptiveWork based on their configuration.

AdaptiveWork no longer manages SSO directly with the IdP.

Which Identity Providers are supported with PV Admin SSO?

PV Admin SSO supports standard SAML 2.0–compliant IdPs, including:

  • Okta

  • Azure Active Directory

  • Ping Identity

  • Other enterprise IdPs

Can we still use username/password login?

If you not using SSO, you are able to connect with username/password.

If you are using SSO, it depends on the AW setting 'Enable Password Authentication'

Can customers use shared services like Roadmaps, Planview.me, and AI agents without enabling SSO?

Yes, shared services are available in PV Admin without enabling SSO.

Without SSO, can users launch AdaptiveWork directly from the PV Admin tile?

No. Without SSO, user will be able to log in to AW from the AW login page only.

When PV Admin SSO is enabled for AdaptiveWork, can specific users still sign in with username and password instead of SSO?

Yes. Specific users can be configured to bypass SSO and sign in with username and password by enabling Require password (bypass SSO) for that user in Planview Admin. For setup steps, see Managing Users.

What does the customer IT team need for SSO setup, including security and trust documentation?

The customer IT team typically needs an internal SSO or Identity Provider administrator to configure their Identity Provider for Planview Admin before SSO is enabled.

In most cases, IT will need to create a Planview Admin application in the Identity Provider, exchange SAML metadata, validate how users are matched, and test the configuration before rollout.

For security review, customers can use the Planview Trust Center.

Roles, Permissions & Access

Are AdaptiveWork roles managed in PV Admin?

No, AdaptiveWork roles are not managed in PV Admin.

PV Admin manages authentication and identity only.

AdaptiveWork continues to manage:

  • User roles (Admin, Lite Admin, SuperUser)

  • Licenses

  • Access level and financial permissions

Can PV Admin assign AdaptiveWork licenses?

No, License management remains within AdaptiveWork, for now.
PV Admin controls who can access, not what they can do inside AW.

Migration & Enablement

Do existing AdaptiveWork users need to be recreated?

No.

Existing users are mapped to PV Admin identities. There is no loss of data, projects, or history.

What happens to existing SSO configurations in AdaptiveWork?

Once PV Admin SSO is enabled:

  • SSO configuration in AdaptiveWork is adjusted and pre-populated according to PV Admin SSO requirements and guidelines

  • SSO is managed exclusively through PV Admin

Can we roll back from PV Admin?

Rollback is not recommended once fully enabled.
PV Admin is the strategic direction for identity management across Planview products.
