Aggregated Resources at the Task or Milestone Level

Effective resource planning requires not only accurate data but also the ability to view that data in the right context. In project delivery, this often means understanding how labor and asset resources roll up—not just at the project level, but at key delivery points like Tasks and Milestones.

To support this need, the system provides automated aggregation of time-phased Labor and Asset resources at both the Task and Milestone levels in the Financial Planning View. This makes it easier to assess resource usage, effort, and cost associated with specific parts of the project structure—without having to dig through individual work items or perform manual calculations.

How Does It Work?

Aggregation means that resource efforts and costs—whether from labor hours or assets like equipment and tools—are collected and summarized in the Financial Planning View for Tasks and Milestones. Instead of looking only at the Project-level, teams get a consolidated view of total resource usage per milestone or task.

The aggregation happens automatically—when you assign labor or assets to leaf tasks or link them directly to milestones, the system collects and summarizes this data for you. By aggregating labor and asset resources as Related Items on milestones, resource management becomes more intuitive and accessible. This approach streamlines how teams monitor and report on resource utilization, enabling more accurate and efficient project planning.

Labor Resources

When labor is assigned to leaf tasks or linked directly to a milestone, the system automatically aggregates these labor assignments and displays them as Related Items on the milestone record. This means that all labor efforts connected to a milestone are rolled up and accessible in one place. The milestone’s Financial view also summarizes these labor resources, helping teams quickly assess total effort and associated costs.

Asset Resources

Similarly, asset resources assigned to leaf tasks or linked directly to the milestone are aggregated and shown as Related Items on the milestone. These asset allocations are likewise reflected in the Financial view, providing a complete overview of both labor and asset resource consumption at the milestone or task level.

Note


Project-level aggregation is based on Labor and Asset data assigned at the Task level. While Milestone aggregation provides a summarized view of resources for planning and reporting, it functions independently and does not influence how resource totals are calculated at the Project level. Only Task-level assignments contribute to the Project’s aggregated resource calculations.
