Planview Roadmaps utilization for reports and outputs

The connected roadmap is a powerful reporting measure that can be used to gain broader insight into company-wide initiatives and impacts. Use the following recommendations to leverage the power of visualizing connected strategy and work with Planview Roadmaps.

Recommendation Description Example Subscription
Export a snapshot of the roadmap and specify the view to be exported The exported snapshot includes the information exactly as it is currently displayed on the roadmap. That is, groups that are collapsed in the roadmap are also collapsed in the snapshot.

Highlight key themes and information relevant to your viewers and stakeholders.

For executive decision makers, display high level strategic priorities and timelines related to the deliverables. Connect strategic priorities from Portfolios to projects or epics from Portfolios or AgilePlace, and link them to the outcome deliverables from Portfolios.

For teams performing the work, export the view to display connections between work and organizational priorities.

Include relevant milestones in the exported view to communicate and highlight important dates.

Color and group by attributes to further refine your display for specific stakeholders and focused output

After adding items to your roadmap, you can organize the coloring and grouping to highlight high-level strategic themes for an output-focused view tailored to specific stakeholders.

Your roadmap can be considered as a dashboard to adjust. Create different views based on what you want to show.

You can color code the items based on an existing item attribute, such as priority or status, or you can create a custom item attribute for this purpose with values such as Innovation, Growth and Operational Efficiency.

In this example, items can be color coded by entity type, so you would specify  Entity type (Portfolios) as the Color by value.

Similarly, you can group the items based on an existing or custom item attribute. In this example, the items can be grouped by entity type, so you would specify Entity type (Portfolios) as the Group by value.

To highlight roadmap for each strategy area, Group by Strategy parent.

To highlight status of the strategic programs, Color by Strategy status.

Use Date difference mode to communicate changes simply and effectively

With Date difference mode, the orange lines in the roadmap provide a visual cue that dates on the source product have shifted from what they were originally, due to dependencies.

One item with a date shift can affect items that are dependent on it.

Export your roadmap with Date difference mode in the view to share a shift in dates. This will also display any dependencies. Explore the source to include key information about what may be impacting the change for full insight.

In the exported view, bring attention to items shifted to the right. This means there has been a delay since your last review. You can see what the potential impacts are by viewing the dependencies.

Leverage connected Portfolios items to track and share impactful financial changes in the roadmap

For Enterprise users, the system of record for the connected items on the roadmap is Portfolios, where the quarterly planning and investment approvals occur.

Communicate changes with financial impact by exporting your roadmap to display and highlight relevant Portfolios entities.

Connected items can be updated with changes from the source product. Show various views that include a baseline alongside changes to show the impact.
