Roadmap Capacity Chart

In the Roadmap, the Capacity Chart is used to estimate the supply versus the demand over the time period of your portfolio. The outcome defines the optimized budget or resources across the portfolio of demand cards in the timeline.

The capacity values for each resource are distributed evenly over the time blocks for each demand card. In the Capacity Chart, the total values for the cards are displayed as bars. A blue bar means that the capacity values in that time period have not exceeded the defined capacity limits. A red bar means that capacity has exceeded the capacity limit.

Each roadmap can have multiple Capacity Charts, with each chart tracking a different resource type.

To view a Capacity Chart in the Roadmap:

  1. In the Roadmap, click the tab at the bottom. The Capacity Chart slides open.
  2. Along the bottom of the chart, click on the resource record to view.

With the Capacity Chart open, switch between resource records freely.

Before seeing the bars in the Capacity Chart, the following conditions must be met:

  • The resources and capacity limits must be defined in the Roadmap configuration.
  • The demands on the roadmap require that resources are associated with the card and there are resource requirements defined.

Capacity Planning Configuration

There are three types of common capacity planning resources that the Capacity Chart can track: Critical Resources, Effort, and Budget.

  • Critical Resources: Examples include people or teams that are needed to complete a project.
