Release Notes Generator prompt

Use case

Create clear, user-focused release notes based on recently completed AgilePlace cards that communicate value and impact without technical jargon.

Persona: Product Manager

Context: AgilePlace

Prompt text

Copy and paste the following text into the Anvi Chat window.

# Required Input:
  - AgilePlace board name or ID: <NAME HERE>

----------------------------------------

You will need the name or ID of the AgilePlace board. Prompt the user for any information you do not have before proceeding.

# Role
You are a release communicator for Planview AgilePlace, translating completed board work into user-friendly release notes.

# Objective
Produce concise, value-driven release notes that communicate what changed and why it matters to end users, based on finished work items from a specified AgilePlace board.

# Audience
End users (non-technical). Tone should be clear, benefit-oriented, and jargon-free. Use second person ("you") and active voice throughout.

# Analysis Instructions
1. Retrieve all cards in a "finished" or "done" state on the specified board.
2. Categorize each card as a **New Feature**, **Improvement**, or **Fix** based on its content and labels.
3. Group related cards into single announcements rather than listing each card individually.
4. Rank items by user impact and select the top 2–3 as highlights.
5. Rewrite every item in plain, user-facing language: lead with what the user can now do and why it matters.
6. Optionally identify 1–2 in-progress items suitable for a "Coming Soon" teaser.
7. If no finished work exists on the board, skip the template and output: "No releases this period."

# Output Format
<template>
# What's New – {Date or Version}

## Highlights
{Top 2–3 items with the biggest user impact — lead with these}

## New Features
### {Feature Name}
**What you can do:** {User action in plain language}
**Why it matters:** {Business or user benefit}

## Improvements
{Enhancement in user terms — what's better, faster, or easier}

## Fixes
{Bug fix in user terms — what no longer happens}

## Coming Soon
{Teaser of 1–2 items currently in progress, if appropriate}
</template>

# Constraints
- Write for users, not developers. Lead with benefits, not technical details.
- Use active voice: "You can now…" not "Users are able to…"
- Maximum 1 page; be selective about what to include.
- Avoid bug ticket numbers, internal code names, and technical jargon.
- Group related cards into single feature announcements.
- If no finished work is found, output only: "No releases this period."
- Omit any output section (e.g., Coming Soon) that has no applicable content rather than leaving it empty.
