Option Description
General
Title Name of the widget.
Description (contextual help) Description to appear when user clicks the help icon for the widget.
Chart Configuration
Entity type The type of entity for which data is to be displayed in the widget.
Chart type Type of chart to be displayed, such as bar, column, or pie.
Source attribute

The attribute whose values are displayed in the chart.

Bar, column, and pie charts let you select a single source attribute, while multi-bar and multi-column charts let you select two source attributes, as follows:

For multi-bar charts:

  •  X-axis: attribute 1 – The first attribute whose values are displayed in the chart for the x-axis.
  •  X-axis: attribute 2 – The second attribute whose values are displayed in the chart for the x-axis.

For multi-column charts:

  •  Y-axis: attribute 1 – The first attribute whose values are displayed in the chart for the y-axis.
  •  Y-axis: attribute 2 – The second attribute whose values are displayed in the chart for the y-axis.

TIP

An attribute's value type indicates the format in which the relevant attribute's values are displayed, such as (but not limited to) currency, duration, or effort. When viewing a multi-bar or multi-column chart, the value types for attribute 1 and attribute 2 must match. For example, if you select an attribute that has a currency value type for attribute 1, then attribute 2 must also have a currency value type.

To facilitate this, when you select attribute 1, the product filters the list of attributes for attribute 2 so it only includes those with the same value type as attribute 1. But, keep in mind that if you decide to go back and change attribute 1 to an attribute with a different value type, you must also change attribute 2 to a matching value type.

To learn more about attributes, see Manage Attribute Screen Basics.

Group by

Lets you view charting elements by a specific work alternate structure.

For multi-bar charts, Group by affects the y-axis. For multi-column charts, Group by affects the x-axis.

NOTE

Using the Group by option also gives you the ability to change the colors of the chart elements to match the attribute charting colors that have been configured for the selected work alternate structure.

To change charting elements to attribute-defined colors:

  1. Click the Group by list, then click the work alternate structure you want to use.
  2. In the Chart Color section, click the Palette type list and then click Attribute defined.
  3. Click Save.

The colors of the chart elements change to match the colors of the selected work alternate structure's attributes.

  • Multiple colors – Selecting this option causes the chart to display all elements in a Planview-defined set of multiple colors.
