FAQ

What is a ”copilot”?

Copilot is an industry term for chat-based virtual assistants who interact with users in plain language and can take action on the user’s behalf. Examples include Microsoft 365 Copilot and GitHub Copilot.

How do copilots work?

Copilots use web-based Generative AI services such as Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT. Other copilots can understand basic concepts and converse in everyday language. Copilots have access to generally available information, such as could be retrieved via a web search. Depending on the circumstance, copilots can also access proprietary data and take actions through web APIs. Copilots can also automatically translate to and from the most common written languages.

What is the difference between an AI Assistant, AI Agent and a Copilot?

These terms are evolving fast, and in many instances, people use them interchangeably. In our view, a copilot goes further than an Assistant or AI Agent: a copilot can answer software questions like an AI Assistant/AI Agent, but it can also answer questions about your data, your business situation, apply domain-relevant best practices in the answers it provides, and even execute software actions on your behalf.

Why is Planview Copilot useful?

Connecting strategy to delivery involves understanding large, complex, highly interdependent sets of people, data, and processes and coordinating them to work together seamlessly. Planview Copilot simplifies this complexity, presenting decision-makers with clear choices and recommended actions appropriately.

How is Planview Copilot superior to other copilots?

Planview Copilot has access to a unique and comprehensive set of strategy-through-delivery operating data down to team tools via Flow Fabric and our 60+ connectors, as well as methodologies (such as Planview’s Flow Methodology) that other copilots don’t have access to. It’s the only copilot that can assist you in your business planning and delivery through the higher-value use cases available through the Planview Copilot. And it can answer questions and take actions on your behalf.

Does Planview Copilot use a better LLM than your competitors?

The underlying LLMs used by Planview are commercially available to both Planview and our competitors; therefore, our competitive differentiation does not derive from access to the LLM itself. Please see the question above for more information.

What kinds of actions can Planview Copilot take?

Planview Copilot is designed to take most actions within Planview products that a user can perform, such as:

  • Interface (“tell me the status”, ”reschedule an item”)

  • Summarize (“what’s the most important of these”)
  • Recommend (“what should I do”)

The set of actions will continue to grow with the evolution of Planview Copilot.

What languages does Planview Copilot support?

Planview Copilot is designed to answer questions in the language of the question being asked. Planview has tested its capabilities in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Swedish.

Will I be able to get value from Planview Copilot on day 1?

Planview Copilot can provide value immediately, but the more available data, the better the answers will be. This is largely influenced by the number of Planview products and capabilities you have adopted and the connectors to the 60+ software delivery and work management tools you have enabled.

Can I just deploy Planview Copilot, or do I need other Planview products as well?

No, please see the answer above; Planview Copilot is not a standalone product and needs access to some of the data/tools mentioned in the previous question.

Does Planview Copilot need any customer-specific training before it can be used?

No. Planview Copilot is an AI-trained service to analyze and act upon Planview data as an expert in planning, agile, and/or flow methodologies. This training is generalized and not specific to any specific customer data or circumstances. Planview Copilot does, however, need access to data; please, see question above.

Is Planview Copilot smart enough to know when it does not know the answer and says so?

Though recent improvements make it less likely, LLMs may sometimes hallucinate—this is an emerging industry term when an AI assistant/copilot responds with gibberish to a question/prompt. Planview’s use of these models is designed to further minimize the chances that a user receives incorrect information. Use the feedback buttons in our products to let us know about questionable answers.

How does Planview Copilot handle my data?

Planview Copilot temporarily receives a relevant set of your application data (e.g., projects, kanban cards, OKRs, etc.) when you ask a question. This data is used by the service to interpret, give advice, and execute actions on your behalf. To improve the service, this data may be temporarily stored by Planview to address negative user feedback but is otherwise discarded after the question is answered. Your data will never be retained or used to train models by one of our service providers. Use of your data this way aligns with our existing data privacy agreements and those of our cloud service providers, such as AWS and Azure.

Can I opt out from having my data even temporarily used by Planview Copilot?

Yes, you can opt out of all AI-driven features if your organization does not want data sent to an AI- or ML-based service. In such case, you will not be able to take advantage of any of Planview’s AI capabilities.

Does Planview Copilot keep my data forever?

We delete all customer chat data in Planview Copilot after 6 months from when it was submitted, as part of our security policies.

Will Planview Copilot be able to learn my company’s processes?

Planview Copilot is an AI-trained service to analyze and act upon Planview data as an expert in planning, agile, and/or flow methodologies. This training is generalized and not specific to any specific customer data or circumstances. Planview Copilot will leverage the generalized training to interface, summarize, and recommend actions based on a customer’s data in Planview products and across the 60+ software delivery tools that are integrated with Planview. Your company’s processes are encoded in these products and will be reflected in the responses and actions as you interact with Planview Copilot.

We are also evaluating the ability to further train Planview Copilot based on your unique business process, training materials, and more.  Please join an upcoming Inner Circle to learn more and share your use cases.
