Work Alignment

Overview

The Work Alignment widget helps you visualize how your work aligns with any key dimension. Whether you're tracking alignment to themes, initiatives, OKRs, or other important dimensions, this widget provides portfolio-level insights into where your teams are focusing their efforts. 

With the Work Alignment insights, you can:

  • Track the percentage of work aligned to specific priorities
  • Monitor completion rates of aligned work items
  • Compare alignment patterns across teams and portfolios
  • Identify gaps between priorities and current work efforts

This visibility enables data-driven decisions about resource allocation and helps ensure your teams are focused on what matters most.

Getting Started 

Select a Portfolio from the navigator or click the organization name to view work alignment across all products.

Navigate to the Executive Insights tab.

Before insights will appear, an org admin will need to configure a custom filter

           

TIP

Set up your field and options in your source tool before creating a custom filter. This saves time and prevents unnecessary Options Reloads. For guidance on adding fields post-configuration, see this FAQ.

Once configured, the widget automatically shows the current quarter's data with all filter values selected.

Use the period selector to choose your desired timeframe.

Understanding the Insight

The Work Alignment widget displays these key insights:

  1. Total number of aligned items
  2. Total percentage of aligned items
  3. Breakdown of aligned items by Flow State (i.e., Active, Waiting, and Done)
    • Note: The New Flow State is not included in these insights. 
  4. Number of products with aligned work
  5. Breakdown of aligned items by dimension (e.g., breakdown by Theme)
  6. Percentage distribution by individual values (e.g., 13.5% work items aligned to the 'Enhancing customer experience' theme)
    • Note: Work items may align to more than one value.
  7. Count distribution by individual values (e.g., 116 items aligned to the 'Enhancing customer experience' theme)

How We Generate the Insight

  1. A Viz administrator sets up a custom filter to define which data to include.
  2. Viz pulls in data matching the custom filter criteria.
    • For example, if using a Jira tool connection with the "2025 OKRs" field and the "Epic" type, Viz retrieves all Jira epics with 2025 OKRs data.
  3. Viz analyzes child items related to the filtered data to generate the insight.
    • Note: Only modeled child items are included.
