FastTrack Dashboards
The FastTrack Dashboards are purpose-driven dashboards which give portfolio managers new insight and understanding into portfolio and resource management. Built on the FastTrack Analytics framework, each dashboard includes multiple interconnected visuals to communicate progress and measure performance.
The FastTrack Dashboards use the SSRS reporting platform. The dashboards cannot be installed in earlier versions of Planview Portfolios.
The following table shows details of each dashboard as well as the business value, business rules and configuration rules for each.
Click to view Functional Details Click to view Configuration Details |
The WRK101 Gated Project dashboard provides an interactive view of project progress and performance through the organization’s stage gate process, whether for IT or Product Development. Project managers, product managers, and gate owners can visualize and investigate status, scoring and financial performance by gate to understand progress and trends. The dashboard gives insight into resource availability to identify bottlenecks ahead of time, progress on deliverables and key performance metrics. |
Click to view Functional Details Click to view Configuration Details |
The STR103 Strategic Planning and Analysis dashboard empowers strategic and program managers to quickly assess their strategic plans against targets and across key factors. Managers can immediately visualize whether the latest plans meet revenue, cost and margin targets. They can analyze cost and revenue breakdowns by missions and objectives, geographic regions, and markets. Evaluating performance against targets, incoming pipeline by region, and return by market, managers adjust their plans to deliver a balanced portfolio across their strategies. |

Connecting the demand pipeline to strategy, resources, projects and outcomes, the MY102 Portfolio Performance dashboard on My Overview gives portfolio managers an end-to-end view of their portfolios. Managers understand the impacts and relationships between project performance, outcome ROI, strategic financials and resource availability. |
Using the Analytics
The FastTrack Analytics are configured and then deployed for use by end users to report on their own portfolios of projects, resources, strategies, etc. The method by which end users navigate to, and use the reports is dependent on the Planview Portfolios version that is being used.
See FastTrack Analytics - Using the Analytics for more information.
Printing and Exporting Reports
Report Printing and Exporting
Most of the FastTrack analytics are designed with on screen interactivity and analysis as the primary goal. Many of these reports can have a variable number of columns either through configuration (support for many optional columns) or through pivots (on a time range and dimension). Because of this there is no guarantee that these reports will fit onto standard size documents (Letter, A4, etc.). In some cases, these reports may fit within letter/A4 landscape if table columns and pivot columns are kept to a minimum. These printing constraints apply when printing to hardcopy or when printing to softcopy (export to PDF).
In order to print to hardcopy a report must be exported to PDF format and the PDF file sent to the printer.
A small number of the FastTrack Analytics have been designed specifically for printing, these are;
- WRK14 - Project Highlight Report and the WRK13 - Business Case Report are formatted to fit to Letter/A4 portrait size for both hardcopy printing and PDF export.
- WRK16 - Project Highlight Report and STR16 - Program Highlight Report are formatted to fit to Letter/A4 landscape size for both hardcopy printing and PDF export.
- WRK17 - Portfolio Gantt Report is formatted for Letter/A4 landscape size for both hardcopy printing and PDF export.
Reports are rendered through Microsoft SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services); this provides a number of native export formats: PDF, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, TIFF, CSV, MHTML and XML.
Recommended export formats are;
- PDF when the objective is to distribute a report in an easily readable format.
- Excel is a very effective format to export to when the report is large (multiple pages on the screen) and/or wide (wide time horizon). The expand/collapse features in the report data tables are preserved when exporting to Excel. Exporting to Excel also allows sizing/printing area set up to facilitate hardcopy printing.
Note - the following export formats are not supported for the FastTrack Analytics - specifically the reports have not been built/tested to utilize these formats:
- CSV
- XML
In many of the FastTrack Analytics a user parameter is included to control the layout of the detailed data tables. The options are typically;
- Grouped/formatted – this shows the data table with row groupings, text formatting and expand/collapse sections.
- Non-grouped/plain – this shows the data as a flat table, with no grouping or formatting. This is designed to facilitate data analysis/filtering when the report is exported to Excel.
All of these formats are accessible via the Actions menu at the top left of any report.
Export to PowerPoint
The Export to PowerPoint option is available when using a PVE 13+ report tile following the move to SQL Server 16.
Report Subscriptions
The Report Subscription capability allows a report (FastTrack Analytics or Custom Report) to be executed automatically based on a specific set of parameters and the resulting report can be emailed as attached export.
Release Notes
Planview Enterprise Version and Database Platform Support
The FastTrack Analytics (FTA) were first launched in 2012 as RPM Analytics. The different versions and editions released since then are detailed in the table below. To obtain support, including fixes and new analytics, all customers must upgrade to the latest version available the corresponds to their version of Planview Portfolios. Oracle Database Customers
For on-premises customers who use an Oracle Database backend, Planview Consulting can provide a subset of the FastTrack Analytics for customization to match the customer data model. These reports are not configurable. They are provided as a Planview Consulting Services deliverable. They are not part of the standard Planview Enterprise product and are not maintained through the Planview Enterprise Product Support team.
