Keeping Resource Information Up to Date

Summary

Resource information such as skills and roles should be tracked within Planview Enterprise so that project managers can define requirements and resource managers can forecast resource needs.

The definition of resource information or attributes is unique for each organization. Planview recommends that, at minimum, an attribute to track skills, resource role, and area of interest be created. Resource skills and roles are critical to the ability to forecast resource needs and to accurately assess the mix of skills within an organization. It also helps to review whether the resource skill base is growing or shrinking and helps to ensure that resources are assigned to the work they are qualified to perform. Tracking a resource’s area of interest can help foster professional development by working to increase skill proficiencies. It can also improve employee satisfaction by assigning resources to areas of work that interest them.

This best practice stresses the importance of keeping resource attributes and calendar information up to date.
