March 2024 Portfolios Q&A

Question Answer
Are there any plans to deprecate Web Services any time soon? There are no plans at this time to deprecate the SOAP services, but as the REST alternatives come out we do encourage you to explore enhancing your integrations using these new APIs with the expanded fields you can interact with through REST.
What is the main differentiator between Planview.me and Portfolios Overview? Will a user have to toggle between both? Think of them as different views. Planview.Me is across our platform, not at a single product level. You can configure a view that brings in OKRs, Roadmaps, and around the same time that we GA (make Generally Available in Production) Portfolios Overviews, some Portfolios components. So people who either don't need to be in the weeds of a single product or perhaps touch multiple products can find value in starting at the Planview.Me level. Portfolios overviews are Portfolios-specific views within Portfolios at the My Overview, Work Portfolio, and Work/Project levels (currently, we have plans to expand to other levels too). So you can configure views that meet your different Portfolios user personas/roles needs, to view and take advantage of while in the Portfolios product. Both Planview.Me and Portfolios will have some of the same components, just contextual to the level and user personas. Hope that helps!
So co-pilot is for the March version? We're targeting May for the first release of Copilot in Portfolios.
Do the upcoming Copilot functionality involve data being exchanged with US based servers, as was the case with Planview Kodi? And will it be available globally? The data between Copilot and Portfolios will remain in the same region where the data originated, and will be available globally.
1. Is copilot content auto generated?
2. Can we add out own content, training / guidance?
1. Yes, Planview Copilot is generated realtime by our Copilot AI/LLM.
2. Initially this will not support customer-provided content/training/guidance but this is absolutely part of our plan for future functionality, understanding customers have many of their own processes that are not addressed by broader project management information.
Will overviews be available in the labs to allow us to test this out? Our plan now is to prepare for the GA (General Availability/in Production) of Overviews as opposed to labs. This is allowing us to focus on making sure it begins providing value at GA, and continues to provide increasing value after GA with the release of additional widgets and functionality. Also, Overviews will be configurable and won't show up until you allow it to; you should be able to configure to only show to specific users like yourself so you can try out initially to test it out. There will be a Global Option controlling whether Overviews is enabled in an environment, so we'd encourage you to test it out in your Sandbox environment first.
Hello, random question...is there a plan to update LeanKit references in Portfolios to AgilePlace?  A minor detail but with new users, the reference to the old name can be very confusing. Yes, we do have this as an item to address – we agree and have heard the same about confusion with new users. We don't have a specific release when this will be complete but we will make sure to announce when that work is done; the renaming to AgilePlace will be part of the Managing Plans in projectPlace release, which is currently targeted for GA in May.
If ProjectPlace manages the plan, do we still have the possibility to assign resources in Portfolios ? Yes, there will still be the same ability as today to assign resources in Portfolios.
The project place connector will it be able to be turned off so it isn't an option? we like to manage it one way If you are not using the connector today, it will not be enabled by default. If you are using the connector, and want to continue managing Plan in Portfolios, then the new value will be there, and you are able to disable in alternate strcuture to prevent users from changing. With GA the value in alternate structure will be there, but if you want to  continue to only manage Plan in Portfolios, you can disable the ProjectPlace option in Alternate structure.
Can we test the ProjectPlace Connector on our Sandbox environments first only? Yes, early access will be turned on in your sandbox environment only. Once your Sandbox is upgraded to March 2024, you will need to submit a case, and we'll work with you to enable.
Will the default be Portfolios when it is enabled? Default will be No, for existing projects set to Portoflios will remain that way. In case you wish to not manage Plans in ProjectPlace, you can disable the PP value in alternate structure to prevent users from using.
What's the advantage of working in ProjectPlace vs Portfolios? Many users prefer the more light-weight and user friendly experience of managing the schedule that ProjectPlace offers. It also makes the interaction with the Boards and Cards where the teams typically focus easier and more seamless.
Can Planview Admin default an open on Portfolios. Reluctance to go on Planview Admin if most users will only use Portfolios as it means an extra step to get into the tool. Onboarding to Planview Admin will have no impact to individual users. When we say that certain features require onboarding to Planview Admin, we only need your product instances to be added to Planview Admin. No requirement to turn on SSO, no changes to user login workflows etc.
When will the requirement for access to shared services needing PV Admin cut in? As we've heard here, ProjectPlace owns the plan requires onboarding to Planview Admin as was the case for OKR associations in Portfolios, Enterprise Roadmapping and the Digital Product Insights dashboard offering as a set of examples.
If you run a Program in Project does Progression still work on the Program? Yes, progression will still run as today - it may affect the schedule for items that have not yet been started, in which case the schedule in ProjectPlace will be updated.
Is there a Progression Engine in ProjectPlace? There is no Progression engine in ProjectPlace - resource management and capturing of effort/cost will still be managed in Portfolios and progression will be running there as it is today.
Updating assignments for a planning that is managed is ProjectPlace, how is handled the use case when a user adds effort outside of a task duration range? Adding effort outside of a task duration range is blocked by default when ProjectPlace manages the plan.
What impact does changing the plan in PP have on requirements and allocations? There should be no impact on Assignments, this will continue to be managed in Portfolios.
If predecessors and successors are not supported in Portfolios for a plan managed in PP, can these be supported in ProjectPlace? We are still working on enabling the current dependency type between tasks in a Plan that ProjectPlace supports - Finish-to-Start. This will not be available in Early access but is planned to be made available when this feature becomes generally available. Other dependency types and predecessors / successors may be considered further down the line
Paul we are on SSO and users go direct into portfolios my overview. If we turn on planview admin can they still do that? Yes - absolutely.
What you can consider (at a time of your choosing - not required) is moving that SSO configuration UP to Planview Admin which could then govern all Planview products and environments. But, to your initial question, authentication and url workflow for users would not be impacted by simply adding products and environments to Planview Admin.
If the Plan is managed in ProjectPlace, can you still create Baselines in Portfolios? It will still be possible to create Baselines in Portfolios, but you will not be able to go back to a created baseline.
Is there a way in Portfolios to "copy" a previous project but change the dates of the project. We have projects that are the same each year and would like to just replicate a previous project, but just update the dates and a few other things. Is that functionality available in Portfolios? Unfortunately, duplicate/copy project is not available in Portfolios. You can copy WBS today, but not entire project. Please submit or upvote ideas in enhancement campaign:

Will successors/predecessors and baselines be supported in the future? When we make this feature generally available it will support the standard Finish-to-Start dependency type between tasks within a plan. We will look at the potential to add more successor/predecessor support further down the line. Baselines can still be created in Portfolios even if ProjectPlace manages the plan, but it is not possible to revert back to a saved Baseline.
When you change dates in ProjectPlace is it automatically creating those as constraints? Constraints and Dependecies are not supported when managing Plan in ProjectPlace. Dates from PP will be reflected in Portfolio Dates (Scheduled/Actual)
We don't record actual start/finish dates in PJP, how will Portfolios know that the activity has in fact started so the dates aren't moved with the weekly progression? I'd like to understand your use case better, can you reach out so we can organize a meetign to discuss? My email is ihuskic@planview.com. Thanks!
Are there any plans in Portfolios to make certain project attribute to be locked dependent on project status? Similarly expenditure attributes to be locked dependent on project status. Not at this time, please submit idea in enhancement campaign: https://e1.spigit.com/e1prmcontinuous

Here you can read about how we progres and select ideas: https://success.planview.com/Planvie..._Customer_Care
Thank you because we thought with my managed services team that the user would see the Planview admin landing page and have to select portfolios rather than going directly into Planview portfolios. You're welcome - if you have further questions please reach out to myself or Jonathan Schnur if you have additional questions.

Sorry, I think I missed it. Are these updated coming soon or being released in March (FTA Reports and Power BI)? The versioning changes for FTA starts in March 2024 update.
Power BI Report Server updates will take place over the course of time that Mauricio covered and will be communicated via status.planview.com well ahead of time.
Is the Report Server backwards compatible with previous RS versions? The server is backwards compatible but the desktop clients are not. So any content created in previous versions can be opened with the new version but if you create and save content with the new version you wont be able to open it with a previous version, so definitely recommend updating powerbi desktop after the server is updated.
What is Technopedia? You can read more about Technopedia here! https://success.planview.com/Planvie...ia_Integration
Great news on the Technopedia integration! We are just as excited! We'll be continuing our conversations with Flexera to see what else we can do together but also continue to feel free to reach out with feedback!
Any way of turning off card reactions?  Our users are not liking the functionality and find they are accidentally clicking on the reaction. Please go to Board Settings to turn off this feature for the board.
Will it be possible to update work lifecycle roles with the REST APIs? The use case is when a user leave the organization it requires a lot of manual work to replace that person manually, work by work. You will be able to update or set a Lifecycle approver via the Project REST APIs. Also, other Lifecycle roles can be set/updated through the Project APIs including Lifecycle Admin and Approver. If you do find that you are not able to set a role that you need, please do let us know that feedback.
I saw on the CSC that Zoom meetings was being sunsetted in ProjectPlace; will the widget be removed from new workspaces soon? We have deprecated the Zoom functionality but the rest of the Meetings-related information is still available. The easiest way to remove the widget is to turn off Meetings under Tools settings in Workspace administration. You need to refresh the overview page but that should remove the widget.
On your March 2023  meeting you presented that "Request Enhanced Configured Screens" was coming as a feature on June 2023.  It's been a whole year. What's the ETA for this now? While the work on that has been continuing, it is the case that its release date has been pushed out to allow us to bring features like Overviews, Project Place/Portfolios integrations, and Copilot to our customers. We understand the need and expectation that Requests get updated to enhanced configured screen, and we do plan to get this out when the work is complete. Unfortunately we don't have a specific release target for guidance right now.
Is there a place on the CSC that lists ProjectPlace bugs so we can check there before submitting a support case? We do not list ProjectPlace bugs on the CSC as we bring them and in as part of our continuous delivery process and try to have as short turnaround time as possible.
When will the 30 custom fields be available in prod? We are targeting an April release.
Assigning teams in agile planning, will this functionality be available for Agileplace boards as well (Portfolio, Program, Teams)? I am not sure I fully understand your question. Would you mind telling me more?
Some admins are looking to assign cards to teams. Will that functionality just be in Agile Planning or also be available thru out boards in AgilePlace? You will be able to assign teams to cards in both the main board view and the Agile Planning view!
Is there a plan to allow multiple Planview.Me dashboards to be active to allow business leadership to create their own dashboard for their teams? In short, YES!
We're moving on to multiple views and user creation features within Planview.Me in the coming quarter. More on this soon!
Will information on team-based allocation in AgilePlace surface in Portfolios? e.g. if I assign a team to a card, will that affect any team members' utilisation etc? That is our vision. There are many conversations underway about how to design the right solution to achieve this.
We're using download to Excel to import in Office Timeline, we're actually just missing a 'Row ID' attribute (e.g. the structure code for the planning task) - will that be included in the optional column set? So you need a new field to be available representing the Row ID? Would it be ok for me to connect with you offline about this? (after the webinar, the Office Timeline Accelerate 2023 presentation provided the answer, to use the 'Sequence ID' attribute ratther than a row ID: https://info.planview.com/2023_09_Ev..._en_watch.html  )
Is there a target date to hide the Office timeline option? If our customers are okay with proceeding with hiding the option, we would likely target the May release. We will know more once people have time to reach out with concerns, so if we decide to hide, we will announce in the Coming Soon section in the April release webinar.
Do we need to create a new account aka password for PV Customer Community or can we use our CSC password? It is a seperate account, and will need to register.
How do I copy a WBS? does it copy the resources as well? You can select the rows you want and then copy and paste where you want the rows. Please see this Customer Success Center topic for more details and reach out if you have more questions: https://success.planview.com/Planvie...he_Plan_Screen
Can you add resource roles to a template Yes, requierments can be added to template.
