Plan Overview (fka Work and Assignments)

Question Answer
Can you set workable time at the project or user level?  For some project we want weekends set as workdays, but that is not the standard. This relates to the calendar assigned to the project. Calendars are created by the Administrator, to suit the needs of your business / work. Calendars may be created to support your needs; for example, a 5 working day week, or a 7 working day week. A specific Calendars will be assigned to the whole Project, but it is also possible to assign a different Calendar to particular work items within a Project, if necessary. It is proposed that this topic is added to Webinar Session 5 on Oct 24, 2023, to allow us to discuss this topic further.
how can plan a pending CR (change request) task in the plan with resource efforts, so it doesn't appear to everyone and allows me to try diffrent options? Firstly, a Project/work plan is visible to anybody who has permissions to see it so they may have read only permissions or edit permissions to see your plan. There is no 'scenario planning' functionality within the context of the Plan (Work and Assignments). There is some 'limited functionality' available that could be of interest, but only for use with 'pre-inflight' projects.
Where we can find the links for the next sessions? They should be up within the next few days (by Friday) within our Webinars pages on the Customer Success Center. You also should receive a follow-up email for today's webinar session that will include information about registering for the next session in the series.
I noticed a 'Set Status Flag' column - with some with a value of Yes, others no...whats the value of that field Status of work lines in the Schedule can be set in a variety of ways. Status can be set manually, as well as through the processing of time reported data, and through other system automation options.    When the Enter Status Flag value is set to Yes, the actual dates and percent complete can be entered manually.
Can you re-cap on the different 'View' options The recap is captured in the recording.
In summary, the Plan (Work and Assignments) Views provides options for changing how data is displayed on the screen.
Scheule View shows the Schedule (Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)), with an array of data points, relative to the selected Column Set.
Schedule and Assignments View shows the Schedule (Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)) with any role based assignments (called Requirements) and any named assigned resources for the respective work items. Again, data visible will be representative of the selected Column Set.
Backlog View  display allows the user to create and detail a list of action items. (Often referred to as the granular more detailed 'actions and activites'.  For example, the Backlog View can be a list of features, a list of deliverables, or a flexible list of items to complete. In the Backlog View a user can create the 'action items' and can then later move them to the appropriate work line within the Schedule.
Schedule and Backlog View provides access to the view the backlog of action items created, with the oppoprtunity to move them to the appropriate part of the Schedule (and view them within the Schedule). New Action items can also be added rto the backlog here.
Resources and Assignments View  displays the planned resource named assignment data, pivoted in a named resource centric view. The named resources assigned to the work are listed with the tasks to which they are assigned listed beneath each resource name.
How is the Critical Path created? The topic is captured in the recording.
In brief, Critical Path Management )<ethodology) (CPM) calculates the schedule based on user-defined critical path elements, such as dates, milestones, constraints, and logical relationships. (I often refer to this as the 'rules' set up by the user (or within the Project Template)). Within the Plan screen (Work and Assignments) the Run Schedule button is available. This button, runs critical path calculation logic which handles and processes the schedule data and the 'rules' defined. In other words, use the Run Schedule button to initiate the CPM Scheduling engine to calculate the critical path for a project, and any updates based on the 'rules', (the dates, milestones, constraints, and logical relationships).

The admin that came before me told everyone that all resources and authorizations had so go under the Total Project line otherwise the error tile would show that items were on the wrong line. Is there a reason he had us do that? We will be discussing this topic in the upcoming Learning Series webinars running each Tuesday throughout October, 09:00 AM - 9:30 US Central Time.

Can you touch on the child/parent relationships when setting work start and end dates? I am sorry that we did not have time to cover this topic in this Webinar. I have added the topic to the backlog for consideration for future sessions.
In brief, parent dates and durations are inherited from their chidren.
In the meantime,

Can the schedule be sorted chronologically, by critical path, or by an alternate structure? This functionality is not available. You may however find it useful to use the visual Gantt display, in conjunction with preferences to support you.
How do you set a specific calendar directly to a project or phase? Can you demo that? I am sorry that we did not have time to cover this topic in this Session 1 Webinar. I will add this topic to Webinar Session 5 on Oct 24, 2023 to allow us to discuss  this further.
Are you able to show how to assign a calendar to a task? I am sorry that we did not have time to cover this topic in this Session 1 Webinar. I will add this topic to Webinar Session 5 on Oct 24, 2023 to allow us to discuss  this further.
Is there any possibility to show the gantt as a graphical Work breakdown structure? Adding the Gantt to a Column Set is straightforward and will provide a graphical view of the Work Breakdown Structure. Remember also, that hovering over the visual line in  the Gantt will provide futher information relating to the selected task line.

Follow up on critical path - is it possible to calculate the critical path to a milestone, rather than the last task in a plan? For example, calculate the critical path to "Go Live" as the milestone everybody is aiming for, rather than automatically calculating to the end of "Turnover to Business As Usual" or something that comes at the end but actually isn't that important. If, I understand the question correctly, there is not a 'calculate specifically to Milestones only' option.
However, the use of appropriate constraint types and dates, could I believe, meet your need.
This topic is not specifically covered in this Webinar Learning serties. I have however added the topic to the backlog for consideration for future sessions.
3 questions please:
What is the suggested level of granularity of tasks?

In the proposed use case, do you plan all the tasks with both requirements and allocations?

How do you suggest to manage actuals (Timesheet and Expenditures)? Is it better to keep them out form the system (and then how do you suggest to manage plan) or do you suggest to have them in Planview?
I am sorry that we did not have time to cover these questions in this Session 1 Webinar.

With regard to the question of suggested level of granularity of task planning, I have added the topic to the backlog for consideration for future sessions. Options include extending your Solution to connect with ProjectPlace.
In the meantime, the use of Action Items could be considered.

Can you name a few options for larger plans so they can use those instead of creating every little thing as a task? I am sorry that we did not have time to cover this topic in this Webinar. I have added the topic to the backlog for consideration for future sessions. Options include extended your Solution to connect with ProjectPlace. In the meantime, the use of Action Items could be considered.
