Get started using OKRs in Planview AgilePlace 

Step Role Description

Brainstorm and define objectives

Discuss what your OKRs are intended to measure and for what purpose. This will determine where they are created structurally and which AgilePlace board the OKR should be created on. An AgilePlace board typically represents a group, and each group has their own set of OKRs.  

Objectives should be ambitious, time-bound, and possible to implement in current conditions.  

Create objectives

To create a new objective, access the desired Planview AgilePlace board.  

  • Click   to access the OKR view.  

  • At the top of the OKR board, click + New Objective.  

  • Enter the objective and a description, if necessary.  

  • In the Owner field, select an owner for the objective. 

  • Enter the projected Start Date and End Date for the objective. 

  • Specify which Objective level this objective belongs in.  

 

Align with relevant parent and child objectives

Connect the objective across boards in AgilePlace. These connections create goal alignment throughout your organization. 

  • To connect the objective to one in another board, click Scope type and select Board. Then click Objectives to select a parent objective. 

  • In the Custom Attributes section, click each custom attribute you want to set and select an option. 

  • Click Save, Save & Close, or Save & Create Another to finish creating your objective. 

 

Define current and target metrics (key results) for objectives

Create one or more key results for each objective to track the progress your organization makes toward completing each objective. 

To create a key result: 

  • Find the desired AgilePlace board, then click   to access the OKR view.  

  • Find the objective you want to create a key result for. In the objective, click Add Key Result.  

  • In the Key Results field on the screen, enter a descriptive title for how you want to measure the progress toward reaching the parent objective (such as reducing customer acquisition cost).  

  • In the Target section, enter a Start Date and End Date

  • Enter a Start Value and a Target Value

  • In Data Source, enter the location the data is coming from.  

  • Use the Parent Objective dropdown to modify the selected objective for this key result.  

  • In the Custom Attributes section, click each custom attribute you want to set and select an option. 

  • Click Save, Save & Close, or Save & Create Another to create your key result. 

 

Align key results with activities (cards)

Activities capture your work toward key results. In Planview AgilePlace, activities are tracked using individual cards on your regular AgilePlace board. 

 

Connect cards on boards to key results progress by adding or connecting activities to key results.  

 

  • From the desired AgilePlace board, click OKR icon.png

  • Click the key result you want to add an activity to and select Open

  • Select the Activities tab. 

  • Select the Connect Existing Activities search bar. 

  • Use the search bar to find individual cards or use the Filter by Board dropdown to show all cards on a specific board. 

  • Mark the checkboxes next to each of the cards you want to add as activities to this key Result.  

  • Click Connect Selected Cards. These cards are now associated with your key result. 

 

Monitor progress through key results

Periodically update key results with the progress your organization makes. This contributes to the calculation of the objective’s overall performance.  

 

To update progress for a key result: 

  • Click the Key Result to open it.  

  • On the Details tab, click the Update link. 

  • Enter the new Progress Value and the As of Date, which indicates when that value was achieved.  

  • Enter any additional information in the Comments field. 

  • Click Update Progress to save the information. 

 

To monitor progress in general, review the OKR health panel.  

Adjust plan as necessary

As progress toward key results is made, review the overall strategic plan to ensure that your focus remains on the right initiatives and activities. 

Add, modify, or delete OKRs as needed, review the status of your aligned work (filtering by started/not started/finished), and continue updating key results. 

Complete objective(s)

Your objective is completed once your key results are met.
