Labor/Non-Labor Reports

The Labor/Non-Labor report source allows you to consolidate reporting of labor and non-labor costs (forecast vs actual) into one report. Data can be aggregated by month or quarter and displayed in a crosstab format.

  • Labor fields pull data from allocations and timesheets. Note that if a project is in task-level resource planning mode, the task schedules are treated as allocations.

  • Non-labor fields pull data from estimates and expenses (unless the Is Labor? flag is checked on the estimate).

  • Timesheet entries are tracked for a day. So hours/amounts can be attributed to a specific day. Material Estimates and Expenses have optional date and optional date range (from/to). If date range is populated, then the Amount needs to be prorated over the date range (use business days between date from/to)
  • Reports that aggregate data, such as crosstab and pie/column, are the best fit rather than list reports.

Note: If external vendors are used for staffing augmentation, your labor forecasts and actuals can be tracked via material estimates/expenses by using the Is Labor? flag on estimates.

Optional Finance Feature

If Fiscal Year/Finance Month are enabled in your environment (on Organization/Finance Settings), you can report on fiscal month and fiscal year.

Fiscal Year

For example, if your fiscal year starts in July and you're reporting for July 2016:

  • calendar month = 7, fiscal month = 1

  • calendar quarter = Q3/2016, fiscal quarter = Q1/2017

Finance Month

Finance month comes into play when you want to report on current estimates, which is comprised of actuals (up to the financial reporting date) and the forecast for the remainder. For example:

If Finance Month is not enabled, the following dates are used (based on reporting frequency):

  • Daily Frequency: Cutoff Date is today

  • Weekly Frequency: Cutoff Date is week start date

  • Monthly Frequency: Cutoff Date is month start date

  • Quarterly Frequency: Cutoff Date is quarter start date

  • Yearly Frequency: Cutoff Date is year start date

Creating the Report

To create a labor/non-labor report, use the following report source - Target = Organization, Department, Enterprise, Line of Business, Portfolio, Project, Task  Category = Finance.

Labor/Non-Labor reports support the following output types: List, Crosstab, Column, Pie, Bubble. Aggregating output types such as Crosstab, Pie, and Column tend to fit better than List. Pick the output type and then select fields and configure the report as you would any other. See Defining output options for general information about building reports.

Running the Report

The Set Filters dialog for the Labor/Non-Labor report provides a set of controls that help users fine-tune their reports. Each control is described below.

Frequency

The interval in which data is aggregated in the report. For example, if you have daily expenses and the report is configured for weekly frequency, then data will be grouped by week (one value per week).

Date Range

Specify a specific date or date range from which to retrieve data. 

Filters

Select an existing filter or create filters specifically for the Labor/Non-Labor reporting entity to narrow your results.
