What does the Hub deployment process look like?

The Hub deployment process consists of three phases: Assess, Design, and Launch.

Assess

Generally, the most important phase in the deployment process is the Assess phase. This upfront planning and preparation stage is key to a smooth production launch. When in this phase, the first thing that you should do is get trained! Training is included with most of our deployments and greatly helps the administrators of Hub understand the technical details to implement the solution.

Additionally, asking the following questions of yourself and stakeholders is key:

What do you want to achieve? What is the business goal?
What is the end game for integration? How many projects and types will I need to synchronize?
What is needed for you to achieve the goals?
Which projects do you want to include?
- Work with key customer stakeholders to understand the relevant artifacts and data flows in the existing environments.
  - Make sure that admins/IT team are prepared with necessary access, credentials, etc.
  - Be mindful about having too many stakeholders in different departments/silos involved in the deployment too quickly.
- Determine what projects customer needs to synchronize in integration
Which artifact types?
Does one artifact need to synchronize to multiple places?
What is the source of truth?
Is the synchronization bidirectional?
Which fields are interesting?
Is additional traceability needed (e.g., links between artifacts)?
Have any of these items been synchronized in the past (manually or with a different tool)?
Are all projects being synchronized using the same template in the end systems?
What needs to be configured to support this?
How do I move to production? Do I need approval, a change window, etc?

Enablement Training:
- Sign up for all Hub training sessions in the University of Planview course catalog
Ensure that your test/staging environment is defined and ready for use with Hub
Discuss production go-live plan
Complete Attribute Mapping Template: determine source of truth, synchronization (single or bi directional), fields to map
Install Planview Hub
Create repository connections and ensure Hub can connect

Design

Make sure to follow design steps within a testing environment.
Artifact Definition
- Complete Attribute Mapping Template
  - Determine 10 fields to map
    - Data Mapping: Educate and enable the customer in identifying artifact mappings between repositories, assist in data format analysis, and help implement select transformations.
    - Configuration & Customization: Assist the customer in the configuration of models and mappings in Planview Hub and with the implementation of necessary customizations to achieve the desired data flows.
System Configuration
- Hub and Keycloak installation and initial user configuration
- Using internal vs external database

Follow the Quick Start Guide
Configure the repository connection(s)
- Set up Hub repository users and minimal user permissions
- Confirm successful connections
Create the model
Create repository collections and map fields to model
Create table in database from suggested DDL generated for model (Enterprise Reporting only)
Create gateway collection (Gateway only)
Create database collection and map fields to model (Enterprise Reporting only)
Assist with script or application that posts Gateway payload (Gateway only)
Create integration

Flow Framework

Improving value streams is done by assessing the network of activities involved in delivering products or services to the customer. The challenge is that the activities in software delivery (as compared to manufacturing) are less-sequential and highly iterative across systems and people. Given the complexities of Value Stream Management (VSM) for software delivery, we offer a Flow Framework training to help companies start the journey.

The Flow Framework training enables you on the fundamentals of getting started with a VSM initiative, including common attributes, an improvement methodology, analytical methods and a tooling assessment. After attending training, you will have the knowledge to become a VSM ambassador at your organization or agency.

Validate/Launch
