Lifecycle actions relevant to status changes support adding a Wait step that suspends a lifecycle until a related item's status changes to a particular value. Such a step allows child lifecycles to pass information back up to the parent and control its progress, or the step allows child lifecycles to advance independently to a particular point and then, effectively, wait for permission from the parent to proceed.

You can suspend a lifecycle if at least one status is controlled by a lifecycle, which you can set via the relevant status rule system option

To suspend a lifecycle until entities reach a specific status:

  1. If necessary, navigate to the lifecycle diagram location at which you want to suspend a step.

  2. On the appropriate step, click the down arrow. Then click Insert Under.

  3. On the Object Type list, click Status Change. Then click OK.

  4. On the Action list, click Wait for.

  5. If the lifecycle model is for strategies and the screen includes a Status Type list, indicate whether the wait action is relevant to waiting for related strategic entities or associated work by clicking Strategic or Work (respectively).

  6. On the Target Status list, click the status entities must reach before the lifecycle continues.

  7. If the lifecycle is for strategic entities or for work below the primary planning level (PPL) and the On list is available, click one of the following options. Note: Whether you can make selections from the On list and which options are available depend on the type of lifecycle model.

    • PPL Parent specifies that the primary work parent of the entity must reach the target status before the lifecycle can proceed to the next step.

    • Strategic Parent or Immediate Parent specifies that the immediate parent of this entity reach the target status before the lifecycle can proceed to the next step.

    • All Strategic Children or All Immediate Children requires that all direct children of the entity reach the target status before the lifecycle can proceed to the next step.

  8. Click OK.

  9. Set the step's characteristics as appropriate.
