Define Application Portfolio Views
Summary
Portfolio views allow for “purpose” to be superimposed on the application inventory to provide useful perspectives for analysis. Without them, the application portfolio is simply a single list of applications and their attributes.
In this section we will focus on the three major types of portfolio views (functional, organizational and external). These three views help fulfill Application Portfolio Management goals for increasing efficiency, improving communication, and to allow for benchmarking. While there are certainly additional goals and views that can be established to gain greater value out of your Application Portfolio, the three listed offer a broad base of views to be initially exploited to meet the needs of most organizations.
