Ad-Hoc Analysis - Determine the Cube/Model to Use

▲ Ad-hoc Analysis

Ad-Hoc Analysis Cubes

Ad-Hoc Analysis includes different cubes that are targeted at specific types of Planview Enterprise data:

  • PPM cube includes projects, project attributes, named resource and activity level, time phased, effort and cost of effort data
  • PPM FM cube includes projects, project attributes and time phased data from project financial plans, for the forecast and baseline versions of the primary work financial model
  • EPM FM cube includes strategies/programs with program attributes and time phased data from program financial plans, for the forecast and baseline versions of the primary strategy financial model
  • PVE_PdPM cube includes Outcomes (products and applications) and attributes
  • PVE_FM_PdPM cube includes Outcomes (products and applications) with attributes and time phased data from Outcome financial plans, for the forecast and baseline versions of the primary outcomes financial model
  • PVE_IPM - Investment Planning portfolio data
  • PVE_DM - Requests/Demand Management data

Ad-Hoc Analysis Tabular Models

When using Power BI as the consumption tool, it is recommended that the OLAP Cubes are not used (because of negative performance) and instead the Ad-Hoc Analysis Tabular Models are used as the Power BI Ad-Hoc Analysis data source. Currently the following Tabular Models are available:

  • PPM Tabular Model includes projects, project attributes, named resource and activity level, time phased, effort and cost of effort data
  • PPM FM Tabular Model includes projects, project attributes and time phased data from project financial plans, for the forecast and baseline versions of the primary work financial model

Transitioning from OLAP Cubes to Tabular Models

Please contact Planview Consulting Global Reporting Services (GRS) to discuss the transition from OLAP to Tabular Models

Potential Cube and Model Extensions

The out-of-the-box Ad-Hoc Analysis Tabular Models and cubes can be extended to include additional data types. Extensions are managed through Planview Consulting Global Reporting Services (GRS). Listed below are examples of extensions that have been delivered for specific customers:
Changes Risks Issues Add a new fact and dimension to the PPM cube to enable detailed analysis of CRIs.  See the specific Changes, Risks and Issues associate with any project or task, as well as alternate structures or fields describing those CRI’s
Requirement Details The PPM cube shows the requirement effort on a project, split by the resource (org res) value.  This extension allows you to see the various criteria on an individual requirement.
Work Request in PPM This extension provides the capabilities of seeing the Work Requests and all their attributes as they are associated with projects.  Because this extends the PPM cube, you also have all the measures and attributes associated with the projects.
Tickets This extension to the PPM cube allows analysis on individual support tickets with details to the day and resource level just like natively in the Daily Measures group.
Budget Lines in FM Cubes See budget line notes or other details at the budget line level
Resource Rates Effective Cost Rates, Current Resource Bill and Cost rate.  Very handy if you want to see the rate information associated with resources.
Billing costs Modify the PPM cube to enable analysis based on the Bill costs(the standard costs in the cube is based on Cost Rates)
Payroll codes Enable analysis of daily fact data by additional detail of Payroll codes
Expenditures The standard cube can show expenditures in nice detail.  This enables seeing the individual expenditures under each project, and the financials of those expenditures (Actual and Planned).  This extension provides some detailed enhancements; the planned expenditures spread across the duration of the associated task as well as breaking the Actual Expenditures into the several individual invoices.
Additional FM Versions In FM_PPM or FM_EPM cubes
Recoverable cost and Effort measures in PPM Splitting cost and effort by recoverable and not recoverable can be very useful, but requires a change to the stored procedure as well as the cube.
