Using a Structured Ideation Process

Summary

This best practice introduces a phased approach by which portfolio management can be used in the ideation process to collect ideas and mature them into structured opportunities.

Ideas and opportunities refer to demand that is still in its formative stages. A proposed business venture, exploratory discussions about a new marketing initiative, or an idea about how an internal process can be improved are all examples of demand that must be further matured and articulated into tangible and explicit requests for work. But the challenge is to identify which ideas are worthy of maturing.
