Prepare Project Control Deliverables

Summary

During the project planning process, the project manager determines what documents and control mechanisms need to be put in place to ensure that the project objectives are met. This is often documented as part of a Project Management Plan (not to be confused with a Project Plan or Project Schedule), as well as a Quality Assurance Plan.

It's important to balance the need for key process artifacts and quality measures (within acceptable standards) against the time/cost impact of maintaining those controls. Processes and deliverables must be measured with respect to their overall cost/benefit contribution.

This best practice examines effective project control mechanisms in the form of a Project Management Plan, and a reasonable process for validating the quality of delvierables.
