Product Portfolio Management

Product portfolios consist of products in various stages of the product development lifecycle—from products under consideration to those under development through launch, and including products actively in the market. Product portfolios can enable product-release management and roadmapping (i.e., managing and monitoring the relative timeline of product releases and associated projects). In addition, they can be used to track product development milestones and stage gates. Generally, two paths of activities are monitored: the product development process (e.g., product design, engineering, and manufacturing) and the product commercialization process (including market research, competitive analysis, brand management, and other commercial considerations).
