Changing Your Focus in Capacity Analysis

The Bring to Top list lets you select which financial-planning model account attribute or investment demand entity is emphasized in the Capacity Analysis tray of Investment Planning Manager. This lets you organize capacity and demand data by cost center, investment demand value (strategy, product, or work), account structure, or any line attribute configured on both the demand and capacity models selected for a specific account in investment and capacity planning. If an attribute is on an account for the capacity financial-planning model, but not for the demand financial-planning model, the attribute is not included in the Bring to Top list.

Attributes and entities in the Bring to Top list change according to the attributes shared by the selected capacity and demand financial-planning models. The list displays only attributes shared by both models. Note: The attributes that can be brought to the top are capacity, demand, and Account Type. The other shared attributes can only be brought to the level below Account Type. You can change the emphasis to any attribute in the Bring to Top list.

To change the emphasis of the Capacity Analysis tray:

  1.   In the Capacity Analysis tray, click the Bring to Top list.
  2. .Click the attribute or entity you want emphasized in the tray.

The attribute or entity you click causes the tray to pivot by that item, bringing it to the top. For example, if you are using a Cost Center financial-planning model and pivot the tray to bring Cost Centers to the top, the tray is organized so the cost center is shown above all other attributes. A list of relevant attributes for each cost center is displayed below each Cost Center row. For each Cost Center and attribute combination, a row for each sub-attribute with matching demand is shown beneath the row.

The Bring to Top function's subtotals of data are based on which attribute is brought to the top. Account data is sub-categorized into the following types:

  • Benefit
  • Labor
  • Capital
  • Expenses

Note: If there are demand attributes on an investment demand entity, those attributes display below the entity when it is brought to the top, or below all other attributes when a selection other than the demand entity is brought to the top.

Changing the Order in which Attributes are Displayed in Capacity Analysis

You can configure the order in which capacity and investment demand attributes are displayed in the Capacity Analysis tray of Investment Planning Manager. You can customize attributes that are shared between capacity and demand, or you can customize only investment demand attributes. Your settings are specific to both the Planning portfolio and your personal settings.

To change the order in which attributes are displayed in the Capacity Analysis tray:

  1.   In the Capacity Analysis tray, click the Bring to Top list. Then click Configure Hierarchy.
  2. Define the order in which attributes are listed in the Capacity Analysis tray of the Investment Planning Manager. For details, see your Silverlight documentation.
